Red Chili coral

So my wife bought a bunch of softies online, and one was a chili coral. She had no clue what it was, but we've spent the last two weeks with 'him' in a quarantine tank trying to revive him. I think he's back to his normal self. I snapped this shot the other morning. I had all the blinds shut in the living room, got the camera ready, flung the blinds open and got a decent picture. Here it is with it's 'cacti' all stretched out. I haven't seen too much info on the web about these guys so I thought I'd share with you all.

I had read somewhere that some people were suggesting hanging it upside down. I looked a little further and found an equal amount of people saying not to hang it upside down. I haven't been able to find any wild pictures to see what they prefer.

In the wild they are found hanging upside down in caves and over hangs.Alot of people just have them sitting upright and do fine.Just make sure it's fed and you should be ok.

Here is mine. They do prefer to upside down or at least sideways. They are night feeders so you have to make sure to feed when the lights are out. I have had success with feeding a little then a couple of hours feeding again. It opens with the first bunch of food then feeds with the second. When the light comes on don't be shocked if it looks like it died. That is normal. :)

Working on it. It is open until my MHs come on at 2:30 P.M. now. Some days it just opens at night. I will get it there though. I am gradually, very gradually, going to switch to just day time feedings.

What are you feeding the chili? Aqubacs uses cyclops I see. I feed the tank cyclops, mysis, live phyto and recently started with reefroids once a week. My chili hasn't ever seemed "happy". It's survived for over a year, but hasn't thrived.

I feed Frozen Cyclops once a day, either morning before work or night just before the main lights go out. Then a mixture of Fauna Marin's Clam Food, Sea Fan food, Ultra Min mixed with Ultra Min S. (I get these from Ottawa Inverts), golden pearls, rods food (coral) and a little DTs. Three times a week, or so, I add two drops of a frozen Phyto Concentrate (I get this from Brine Shrimp Plus). I follow the directions for Fauna's gorgonian system. I mix it up in 200 Ml of water and add that throughout the day.
