Red Cotton type algae

Anyone have ever seen an algae that looks like red cotton, I've removed some manually and now I am starting to get more spreading throughout the tank??? It has a texture of cotton both in looks and texture.

I have a PD tang, yellow tang, Kole tang and sailfin... none of them touch it. I also have a couple of urchins that don't touch it.

Thanks

I have the same problem, its been a cancer in my tank for some time. I had a seahare for a while and that didnt work, so next im going to try mexican turbos( I hear they work pretty good)

also my water par. has been perfect.
Iv been running carbon, and have a sump/fuge w/chaeto

I have it on a couple of rocks too. I remove it and it comes right back within a day or so. Have a sea hare and mexican turbos nobody touches this stuff. I have seen hemits messing with it but not enough to make a difference!

Speaking from experience-- Mexican Turbo snails will devour it. 2 or 3 will eat every speck within a few days.

I have it in my fuge. Put some turbos in a couple days ago. They chow it.

When it does shoot up into the display my Powder Blue grabs it b4 it settles..

Good luck

I tried turbos, Mexican turbos, zebra stripped turbos, turbos from Belize...none touched it.

Lots and lots of WCs, manual removal, carbon and phoslock changed weekly, and heavy skimming seem to be doing it for me.

I had the same algae and before i found the cure for it I managed to lose a countless number of zoas and other corals. Mexican turbos also did the trick for me.
On a side note though, i had switched to a different salt (tropic marin pro reef) and thats when i started seeing the algae, and no matter how many water changes i did, rowa phos, phosban, carbon, the algae would return with a vengeance. So i eventually changed salt brands and the algae went away within two days after the water change. Coincidence or not...

I'm so happy to hear that so many people are reporting success with mexican turbo snails. I had this stuff in my 120gal sps tank and I was so frustrated with it I almost hated looking at my tank. It took over multiple zoo colonies and the tangs I had never touched it.
For my next tank I plan on keeping a few mexican turbos on hand to prevent this stuff from ever becoming a problem.
