Red Dragon Acro

That is ridiculous price for sure. What is the record of this coral in captivity. If its a recent wild acquisition who is to say it will survive very well for aquarists. That's a high price for a coral with no history.

agreed. The story it's been in captivity for 5 years. I'm surprised it took so long to hit the market.

It is very rare to come by a red sps, especially a deepwater piece. I just hope this doesn't snowball into a sps craze and drive prices up up up. I like my sps, $250 for a 3/4" piece of sps, :spin2: i still want one though..

This coral has been in captivity for along time, if it is from Reef Raft.

Reef raft only just set up another "display" tank. I have not seen that one there and as far as I know they just got it about a month ago.

Here is the orginal thread where I first saw this red deepwater acro...

aquariumpros ca/forums/showthread.php?t=40840

Paste the link and add the period. for .ca

In not sure where ReefRaft got this one.....the middle picture in the first post is the same picture that reefraft uses.

The story that I was told by Jay at reef raft is that they recieved this coral in an Indonesian shipment 5-6 years ago. It was put in his personal collection. A frag was given to another local reefer. In jay's system it grew to what you see in the second pic. In the third picture, is what it grew into in the local reefers tank. Jay assured me that this is the same piece, just grown in different conditions. Tony had received a colony through reef raft that came from the local reefers tank.

hmm....it could be true. I've never seen it there.....or perhaps I just didnt notice it. But you think I would.

It would need to be verified. I wouldnt want to call someone a liar with out the benifit of the doubt.

They have had it for a long time. The first time I seen it at a swap in Detroit 5 yrs ago or so. There are people out there that have this coral, just need to search ;).

To clarify all your assumptions as to the origins of this coral, it was infact first arrived at RR in 2005 See here: http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=13861&page=2

Since that point in time, the colony has made its rounds from RR to customer and back again to RR. I know this is fact having been there to witness myself the return of the "Red Dragon" to RR and ultimately now, only the hands of CITR.

Hope this settles all your worries....

Ok....like I said I wanted to give them the benifit of the doubt. It sounds like I havent seen it because it has made some rounds.

Geez...... I should have picked up a frag when they were selling them for $150.....ah dang...Im still to CHEAP.

I've been out of the reef world for 6 or 7 years, just getting back into it. What the hell happened to the names of corals? Red Dragon? Why not Twizzler surprise or Red Robin's nest? I guess Red Dragon is hard core.
