Red Dragon Acro

My Dragon

My Dragon

Here is mine. Have had it for over a year. One of my favorite pieces by far. In my ZEO tanks it turns an amazing pink/Fuschia colour

looks drak brown to me. its no match for the red planet!

+1, I wanted to say that as well. it does not look red, more like purple/pink to me, except for 2nd pic but that one looks like a commercial pic.

Sorry if I offend the owners/lovers.

I don't understand all the banging about the price. Anyone see what chalices are going for.... for 1 eye?

I think it's beautiful... a relatively unique color for an acro, coupled with wonderful texture.

I would say the same thing about chalices... give it a couple of years, and their price will be cut in half. Maybe I'm a cheapa$$, but unless I'm getting a decent-sized and/or multi-colored coral, I'm not spending much more than $100 on a piece.

I think the problem I find with the Red Dragon is that even though it is red, it doesn't seem to be as red as some other less expensive corals out there (i.e., Red Planet) AND it is ONLY red (i.e., no tips or polyps that provide contrasting colors). If you start talking about a coral that is Red but with Blue/Purple polyps or tips or some other contrasting colors, then I might be on board for putting down a few Benjamins...

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so there's obviously people out there that like the look and are willing to pay some money to get it.

Here is a really old pic of mine. I have had it for a couple years+ now. Its about 5 times the size

In my opinion only the second picture in the first post could ever be named a "red dragon"
when referring to the coral's color. The rest are pink/purple to me. I like all acropora and would
enjoy owning a frag of this but the price is not in line with what I think it is worth based
on the other pics I see.

I enjoy posts like this that bring out the crazy price discussions, rare and supposedly rare
acropora, and etc... makes for fun reading. Perhaps I need to become more trendy and follow
along so I can debate these fashionable corals with crazy names ;-)

Beautiful coral. It's priceless until........everybody have it.............In this hobby, prices just based on the rareness of the species. So no comment on prices. Just amazed how beautiful it is.

Hey Dwayne. Are we talking about the fuscia here? I can't see pictures photobucked pics here at work. Hope the tank is doing well.

That link to the other site illustrated an unusual pink/fuscia acro which we are talking about. For clarity - RR did not import this coral originally, it was imported by another store. RR aquired it through trading with another local hobbyist. One of the most unique acros I have seen - I am proud to have owned several colonies. Probably find some old pics in my older threads. One of the few frags I think is worth $100.

To clarify all your assumptions as to the origins of this coral, it was infact first arrived at RR in 2005 See here: http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=13861&page=2

Since that point in time, the colony has made its rounds from RR to customer and back again to RR. I know this is fact having been there to witness myself the return of the "Red Dragon" to RR and ultimately now, only the hands of CITR.

Hope this settles all your worries....
