I think the phrase new flavor of the week (year actually) is pretty accurate.
I thought the dark red color was very interesting but it seems the more common
color in a lot of folk's tanks is pink with blue growth tips. Knowing my luck I
would get the pink look instead of the deeper red if I spent money on it.
It was released by what i will call an insider in the hobby (reef raft). The reason
I say insider is because they make their daily bread by selling coral. Naturally they
will stumble upon something new on occasion and realize pretty quickly if it
is special to many customers. Odd how they had it for so long and it took this
many years to get "out there".
I noticed that this coral now can sport the label TYREE LE... is being called
a "designer" acro... etc...
So the first quote of the new flavor of the week is very accurate, in my opinion, as the demand
would not be there if it was not for the buzz on reef forums all over the internet.
When people create a whole new post just to show off a 1 inch
$250 dollar frag you know something is going on craze wise.
With all that said.. i have nothing against people spending hundreds of dollars
on an interesting coral. I just do not understand the attraction to this one in
particular based on the majority of pictures I have seen. Would I want a frag?
Sure! Would I spend 200+ dollars plus shipping to get it? NO.
I would much rather order 3-4 other frags of acropora which I think are better
looking and sport the last few years HOT LABEL.
But what makes it "expensive"? cuz its the new flavor of the week?
