Red Dragon Frags

exactly! It's original Canadian name. It is a $100 frag IME, that taking into consideration the amount of money I invested in the hobby.

I think we should go back to calling it the firefighter fuchsia:sad1:

I heard in Canada you can trade it for poutine.. mmm.. I'd pay 100$ for a good poutine right now. Damn you California Carne sada fries suck!

What ever happened to your colony? That was the niceest one I've seen by far. Do you have a thread on the 50 gallon?

That frag has great potential.
You will be very happy with it.
I have had one in my tank for about 3 months now, It is one of the fastest growing SPS in my tank, and the first one I look at when the lights come on.

Congratulations,

Cam

Thanks MR. You definitely should see this coral in person. You can find better deals from reefers in the area

LOL that's the first acro I look at first too and last. Cant decide whether to place it mid level or on the bottom since I think it will look nice either way. I thought most deepwaters were relatively slow growers but I'm really happy to hear that this grows really fast. Thanks
Sweet frags Brian! You are one hard core collector!
 Thanks for the hook up! You have the nicest tank I have ever seen online and in person. looking forward to seeing it win the totm soon

Insane purchases Chong dud! I only hop they grow into the size of the wow colony! from the dud who sold you those frags... I wish I was a baller!

Don't want to comment on the price. But from first few pictures, I start to understand why so many ppl love this acro, it does have nice and relative unique fixture and growth pattern.

the most fun about this hobby is getting something that is "rare". If you will enjoy the coral and think it is worth the price, forget what people say. Get it and enjoy it. Share it with others when it grows out. I have a softball size colony of firefighter fuschia "red dragon" and I can tell you the colors and structure are absolutely unique and amazing. It is a fast grower, so small frags won't be small long.

btw...I agree with rtbm and 250G, I like firefighter fuschia better than red dragon. I feel like I'm talking about an illegal drug when i say "red dragon".

Please don't help to promote such ridiculous pricing for a tiny frag. That price is a real gouge! For that price you could get an awesome 5-6" colony of a beautiful SPS from Extreme Corals or DD. Check out their sites (I have no financial/personal relationship with EC or DD).

I think the phrase new flavor of the week (year actually) is pretty accurate.

I thought the dark red color was very interesting but it seems the more common
color in a lot of folk's tanks is pink with blue growth tips. Knowing my luck I
would get the pink look instead of the deeper red if I spent money on it.

It was released by what i will call an insider in the hobby (reef raft). The reason
I say insider is because they make their daily bread by selling coral. Naturally they
will stumble upon something new on occasion and realize pretty quickly if it
is special to many customers. Odd how they had it for so long and it took this
many years to get "out there".

I noticed that this coral now can sport the label TYREE LE... is being called
a "designer" acro... etc...

So the first quote of the new flavor of the week is very accurate, in my opinion, as the demand
would not be there if it was not for the buzz on reef forums all over the internet.
When people create a whole new post just to show off a 1 inch
$250 dollar frag you know something is going on craze wise.

With all that said.. i have nothing against people spending hundreds of dollars
on an interesting coral. I just do not understand the attraction to this one in
particular based on the majority of pictures I have seen. Would I want a frag?
Sure! Would I spend 200+ dollars plus shipping to get it? NO.

I would much rather order 3-4 other frags of acropora which I think are better
looking and sport the last few years HOT LABEL.

Supply & Demand.

But what makes it "expensive"? cuz its the new flavor of the week?

designer corals?? Who "designed" it?

I guess it makes sense because I wouldnt buy designer clothes unless they are on sale......Im never the first to shell out the big bucks for the new fang dangled do hickey either.

So I will definately pass on all 1" for over say $60...and that one better be nice.

I think some people try to justify the price by thinking they can make their money back or more on frags....so they also try to keep the hype going (by making threads about it like this one) so when its time to frag they can ask the $250 and not look crazy.

thanks. Hopefully as more reefers willing to pay the premium attain it it will become more easily attainablle to all the rest.

You know I'm far from baller status. Just an enthusiast sharing my enthusiasm for a unique looking acro

Yeah, I don't want to get involvrd in heated debates over pricing like they did on the chalice forums in the past. LOL

Yes, and for that price I can get many other things as well. If you think its ridiculous pricing then just wait it out till it becomes more common. Should I say that's the way the cookie crumbles or the way the ball bounces?
Btw, Dvanacker, I'm not in this hobby for the money amd I could care less whether you think I'm crazy or not. My friends already do.

If my comment came off as rude I apologize. I understand that any type of publicity for this coral will help keep the price too high for many others which sometimes isnt fair but there will always be a market for different segments. and although that isnt my intention it happens. this thread was started because I wanted to know whether the frag with tissue loss was worth buying or the extra hundred for the encrusted one.

Stop the hating on what you cannot get for your own collections.. People are excited for the new corals they get and they are happy to share with everyone... At least they SHARE with everyone on what they get. WHERE IS YOUR STUFF?? did you share with everyone else?? and when you do.. do you like other people judging on your stuff..?? Don't hate.. behave.

Don't hate behave? LOL They're just showing their disapproval that there are ppl like me willing to drop the cash for "named" "designer" "flavor of the week" corals keeping the prices high and inadvertently marketing them by posting threads like these. he chooses not to pay high prices for rd type corals and he still has a nice tank with pretty corals. It's just not his thing. I think every red dragon thread is always going to end in a debate with coral prices. *sigh* maybe that's why there aren't a lot of them
