Red dragon question

I have a fairly nice red dragon colony (thanks Copps!) --I have noticed that the base has become 'brown' maybe a 1/2 inch or so, actually it is hard to say whether this is dormant 'shaded' tissue or recession/STN.

for those that have larger red dragon colonies how does the base coloration change (if at all) as the colony gets larger. thanks

I have a large piece in the back corner that gets less light and the base is quite dark, still red tho. Another piece is smaller and doesn't have any shaded portions so it's still fully red colored. To answer your question, I've seen very large pieces that have very shaded bases and are still red(ish). Might look at water parameters and or nutrient delivery.

the coral will still hang in there just not light to really show color. happy reefing!!
