Red Fungia..

I saw the piece that was came from Physhybusiness and IMO it was better looking than Atlantis's. The thing that ticked me off is to see retailers picking prices out of their you know what and thinking that there are someone gullible enough to pay for that kind of price mark up. It is insulting to say the very least.

If you think that this kind of pricing is fair then show me another retailer with a $500 price tag on an inch red fungia frag and I'll recant my remarks. Until then, I still think they are on a cr@ck!!

I don't want to keep going on and on about the price, but like I said earlier the pic does no justice to what it looks like in person. After all, the pic on the website is a macro of just barely more than a nickel size portion of the whole coral. Either that or I'm looking at the wrong picture.

Where are all these assumptions coming from?

All it takes is a little common sense..;)

Man what do you work for them or something? Stop trying to act like $500 is a good price.

No I don't work for them...
I GUESS every fish store gets red fungias from the same wholesaler nowadays. How could I not have known? I must not have any common sense. boo me :(

After awhile you'll notice that they come in waves. This could be expected when harvesters cycle through collection points and move on to the next, where different species will be more prevelant. They get their quota and move on..Hence the gap dispursement of a particular morph in the industry making it sometimes seem uncommon, if only by industry standards. So, albeit rare or uncommon there or anyone is never the only one. This is to be expected also when LFS do have the same supplier wether it be from the export/transhipment of a supplier or at a trip to the same wholeseller. There's a lot of politics behind the scenes, and it seems the sweet box is always moving place to place to satisfy the masses. Big movers get first dibs on good stuff, among other things. Atlantis can sell coral, there are perks for keeping everyone in business.

Best response to all this poopoo flinging though is the consumer will dictate the market as mentioned earlier. Dont buy it, then maybe in a lil while we can all afford to get a crack at it

very well stated.

Remember the Ricordea craze? The Acan Craze? the bubbles always burst....just a matter of time.. It will burst quicker, if we dont buy from places that like to rape the consumers...

Do u have a pic of yours in the tank?

I sure do. It's red with white spots and a green mouth and rim.

Well, I'd be willing to spend some serious cash for yours, Viper. But for a frag? As stated early on.. Brown Jelly Infection. Too much risk.
Very nice Fungias too, BTW.

Atlantis has a great website but their prices are very high on frags and they don't come in that great of shape. A 1/2 inch frag is really tiny and even in the best of tanks, will take a year to double or triple in size, and it will still be under an inch. I have yet to receive a small frag from them that had any decent color. Their SPS colonies in the 3-6" range are not as dramatic as the LE corals, but at least you are getting a "coral" for your money. To each his own!

I'm pretty sure Rev's red died and left a little surprise.

IIRC, he paid a very pretty penny for it, much to the distress of the wifey. After some time in his tank it went to fungia heaven. He left it in the tank and noticed red dots on the plate's skeleton. It apparently regenerated into a bunch of little red, crazy expensive plates. I'm sure the expensive loss turned into a profitable gain in the end.

SO! don't throw your plates out if they die. They may grow again.
