I've been browsing through Dr Caldwell's images and come across a red morph of a peacock mantis.

Just wondered if these are available or any one else has seen one?

This animal was probably collected at a depth of at least 30 m. Commercial collectors generally work much more shallow than that, so the red morph is rare in animals shipped.

Thanks Roy, for the reply.

ohh well at that depth i don't think I'll be lucky getting one. Would be interesting if light plays a part with the colour at that depth.

I would just like to say thank you for the material you have published. for the last month I've been reading a lot in a hope to get a good understanding before getting my own peacock and most sources point to you.

Thank you
Saj

There are several stomatopods that develop a reddish body color with depth. We assume that with depth red = black. I've seen red G. smithii that we captured at 20 m and the same phenomenon occurs in some Gonodactylaceus, Gonodactylellus, Chorisquilla, and Lysiosquillina as well as Odontodactylus.
