Red Planet placement

I just picked up a red planet frag with a lot of green color on the base. Where do people place this coral in the tank to keep the green color? Can you tell what lighting you have as well? I have a lot of pics of this coral that has lost it's green color. Right now I'm thinking to keep mine midway under my 250 20k radiums.

mine is 8 inches from the surface and and my lights are about 6 inches from the surface and my green is very pale. try going mid tank

I had mine low in the tank under t5s and the green was completely gone, about a month ago I put it about 6inches from the top and the green is starting to come back and its starting to look really nice. Ive seen reports of green loss in pieces at the botttom and top of well light tanks. Just play around with the placement a bit and see where it likes it, be sure to give it ample time to color up though. Mine is also geting more flow a the top that may have something to do with it, who knows this coral seems to be a bit of a mystery. Each piece has a mind of its own.

Mine grew out white w/pink coralites under 250w XM 10k SE with just a hint of light green in the encrusting base but none in the branches. I switched to Phoenix 14k SE and within 3 months the green has started to show in the branches. Coral is 18" away from the MHs.

In my experience with this coral is that you can leave it up hight in the tank and when the coral grows it will shade its own base and the green will return to those areas

^^ this is true..I have mine mid-upper under a 400w XM 20k and the new growth branches are reddish/pink while the base still keeps its deep green

Here is my red planet. It is at the bottom of my 120 (24" high) and the lights (Tek 8 bulb) are 6" from the top of the tank, and as you can see, the green is very much there, and red is still very nice. I do not plan on moving this coral up in my tank, as I really like the look that I am getting with this placement

Had mine under overdriven T5's and lost all green midway up. Bulbs are about 4" from top of tank. Moved it to about 6-8" off the sand in a 24" tall tank and it's starting to slowly get it's green back.

Great pic benihana. That is how my frag looks now and I want to keep it that way as well. So I guess I will keep it lower in the tank. Thanks for all the responses!!

Someone once contacted ORA about this....

"High light, gives the red it's intensity, and the green fades out to brown. Low light, fades the red to brown, but the green is greener."

I have 2 of them the one in high light is all red the one in low light near the bottom is green base red in the middle and the growth tips are almost white. I run 250 DE Pheonix.
