Red Sea 130D

Have been lurking since I took down my previous tanks, about 5 years now. The itch was too much a few weeks ago and I quickly found a used RSM 130D. The seller kept it running until the day I was to pick up, so a quick take down, move, clean and filled it back up.

Items I have since purchased;
API test kit
Refractometer
Chemi Pure
Purigen
ATO kit

Still needing a power head for additional flow over the single return, either some type of Hydor or an MP10 since I loved those in previous systems.

Empty tank shots attached, hopefully some frags this weekend.

I understand the itch but it looks pretty new for adding coral. I want to see coralline before I add even softies.

Did you keep the rocks, sand, and any media wet?
I think I'd test the nitrogen cycle before I thought about any stock....

I take it back, there does appear to be good growth going on. Get your parameters stable for a month and add coral.

Everything was kept wet, we took it down, moved it to my place and set it back up all told just under 3 hours. It has been 3 weeks or so and there was an ammonia spike about day 4 and has since become undetectable. I will only be keeping polyps, zoas and perhaps a leather or hammer coral.

Fish wise there will be a fire goby, yellow goby and royal gramma.

The protein skimmer has been working well, collecting more than I expected from that type of unit. Filter floss in the media rack I change daily, Chemi Pure and Purigen are in there as well.

I do have a question on water changes, I was planning on 5g per week, is that over kill? Perhaps every 2 weeks? Or larger 10g on a monthly basis? I guess the obvious answer is test and test to see where the levels work themselves out too.

I will say I am loving the LED lights, my last system was Aquatic Life HID and T5, ran MH for a while as well, but I enjoy the look of the LED.

I currently have the system starting up at 10am, slow ramp up to 1pm-5pm then slowly down to 8pm where only 2 moon lights stay on. Will that be enough or too much? The system itself is set for a max of 70% brightness, it seemed to work very well for the previous owner.

I only take an hour for ramp up/down but it sounds like they are dialed in.

As far as water changes, I do 10% weekly. It is probably overkill at the moment but I am stocked pretty heavy for a nano.

I will know in the next couple weeks, see how the frags look.

So I will not be far off then changing 5g a week. I don't think it can hurt anyway.
