Red Sea Aquariums - School Me

Greetings...

Does Red Sea sell an aquarium system that is just the tank, stand and overflow? I want to run my own sump, skimmer and circulation pump(s), etc. Everything I see on their website looks to be (mostly) all-inclusive, but I was under the impression they had what I wanted. I'm looking for something that has (roughly) the footprint of a standard 90G setup.

Thanks in advance...

Look at CADlight. They look very similar to Red Sea. The Artisan model comes with a skimmer and return pump, but if you ask them, they will pull them and give you credit off the purchase price. BTW, the purchase price was almost 30% less on my system compared to Red Sea.

If you want to see more, there is a link address to my build thread in my sig below.

I'm pretty sure you can buy a system w/o a sump but it'll probably cost about the same. And yes, they have a tank that about he same as the 90g footprint. I have the RedSea Reefer 170 and love everything about it. The stand is one of the best pre fabricated stands I've ever seen and built. You won't be disappointed with it. Yes, as mentioned above, you can find a system cheaper but the quality is also cheaper.

I have a red sea 525xl very nice tank. It does come with a glass sump. Not sure you can get it without. The ATO is kinda small I dont use that part.

I would be careful with cad artisan I looked at getting one and there are a lot of bad stories related to that tank. You may get lucky you may not.

I have a red sea 525xl and it is better in every sence than the artisan 70 I previously had. Worse case just buy the red sea setup and don't use the sump. You can probably sell the red sea sump for more than the minimal discount you would get if they do sell you one without it.

Thanks for the input so far. Would love to hear more about the Red Sea stuff, or other options...

Unless I'm just missing it, I don't see any detailed information about the stands for the various models on the Red Sea website. I just bought a Trigger Systems Sapphire 34 sump and a Reef Octopus Regal 150SSS Skimmer w/DC Pump. I can't find any internal dimensions to know if it would fit. I don't even see any pictures that would show how to get the sump in the stand with the front center brace. Anyone have a link that would show detail? Pretty much everything I want to know is missing from the website...

for the red sea 525 xl and likely all the divided stands the sump area is 2-3 inches in width and 1-2 inches in depth of the sump size. IE the sump pretty much fills the sump area.

What I'm trying to figure out is if my new sump and skimmer would fit in the stand. I don't see a side door and with the front-center support, I don't see how you would get it in there unless the back is wide open. None of the information on the Red Sea website clearly shows that...

I'm replacing a running 90G setup and have a nice stand with open front access. The sump and skimmer were purchased with that in mind. My original plan, and the easiest approach, would be to just replace the 90G reef-ready tank. The one I have is an All Glass brand, which is out of business and the only ones I've found like it are Deep Blue and Marineland. I'm open to options there, as well,

The back is closed off on the Red Sea stands. Could you use the current skimmer in the Red Sea sump and just sell your current sump?

The sumps that come with the red sea tanks are really nice. I've been eyeing the 250 myself to set up as a BTA/clown harem tank.

You can't return the brand new sump?

Doubtful (I no longer have the special box/packaging that it shipped in) and don't really want to. From what I can tell, it's better than the ones that come with the Red Sea systems. I'm surprised that they're built in such a way that you're more or less "stuck" with their sump/filtration system...

Looks like I need to stay on the original path and find a good reef-ready 90G tank for my current stand...

The Red Sea tanks are a "Plug n Play" system, with that said they leave the rest of the equipment choices up to the consumer. I have the reefer 250 and I like the sump, it left room in the cabinet for a ATO container. Others have had sumps made for their reefer series tanks, for the most part they are having a production sump modified to fit in the cabinet.

I like the looks of the tanks and stands. Personally, I wish they sold a version that was "stripped down" so you could use your own sump. It would also be nice if there was side access or no front-center brace. A lot of people already have equipment brands they know and trust (or already own) that they'd like to use. Just my .02

That's the Red Sea Reefer series (also includes sump). It provides the skeleton, you have to provide anything that plugs in.

I absolutely love my 425XL. So glad I came across it before wasting my time doing a custom set up. No way in hell I could ever have matched the quality of this thing.

Here is a long thread in the Red Sea section about the Reefer Series - http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2458623

I have the Red Sea Reefer 350 and I love it. I made a manifold, use the included ATO as a refugium. Lots of good stuff in that thread, start towards the end.

The sump in the 525 is all glass and seems pretty nice too me. Im a returning reefer been out of the hobby for 15ish years, so im not up on everything. Im just getting the tabk setup, still need lights to get going.

I also plan to use the ATO as a refuge if i dont crack it when I try and drill it :uhoh2:
