Just came across the RED SEA MAX. Wanted to search regarding this item, however, the search is dismantled. Please advise regarding product--if anyone is using same.

I'd also like to know what people are thinking about them after they've gotten them up and running. Quite a few threads have been started on them, but i have yet to come across anyone who has actually purchased one

The Red Sea MAX website has a good animation that gives you a good look at it.

They seem to be hard to come by, stateside. I called Red Sea's north America office and they told me to keep checking Drs. Foster & Smith and Central Pet. Red Sea told me on two different occasions they have shipped... But in calls to Drs F/S & Central Pet they say neither has received any. Sounds like Red Sea is trying to cover up a fulfillment issue to me.

Anyway, Drs F/S said last Monday they had 8 customers backorder and any future orders get in a seniority line until Red Sea can fulfill the wholesale order.

I've looked pretty hard at any online info (I'm shopping for an all-in-one). Some paraphrased comments I've come across: Some people wish it had a bow front, some people think the skimmer isn't what they'd want, some people gripe about the list price of $600. Personally I like that there are a lot of engineered features that the end-user would otherwise have to mod in later (second pump, skimmer, timer, etc.). Pricing each component, it seems a wash on price. No deal, but not a rip-off either. One thing I haven't made up my mind about is the integrated power strip and timer. I fantasized about eventually (when my wallet recovers) hooking all my components up to a controller like the reefkeeper 2 and automating my tank -- Would have to un-bundle the electrical to make that happen I would think. It is supposed to come with 110w power compact 50/50 fluorescents. Being lighting illiterate, I looked up the pin configuration etc. and if I understand this correctly (most likely I don't) one could juice the lighting by changing from the x2 55w T5 pc's to x2 65w putting the total light package at 130w. Who knows, maybe you'd have to dink with the ballasts to even do that... Anyone?

Good point regarding the lighting--would be interested if it could be bumped up. Red Sea is on to something I have been saying for years--the outfit that can create a functionable/attractive plug and play aquarium will take the market by storm--we'll see

Also, as per their usual, Drs. Foster/smith strangely sell the tank, but no stand. Anyone know where to get the stands?

Just saw the info on their site. I seems they could have much more flow. And to put the powerheads on a wave timer circuit to pulsate alternately, creating random currents.

I thought about the pulse current thing too. Someone tipped me to the forthcoming JBJ Nanocube 28 -- 150w HQI and pulse circuit. I'm still researching it, but as any all-in-one there are comments either way...
