Red Sea Max for sale

I have a Red Sea Max (RSM ) new in the box that I am taking possession of tonight. These go for about $600 new. I'm offering mine up, sealed for $550, and the stand for another $100 assembled ($150 new).

I also have live sand and rock and a new chiller for it if interested at additional cost.

Yeah, I know the price is high, but these things are sweet. I just wanted bigger.

Its a Current Prime 1/15hp, but it is for the RSM, so I'm not selling it without selling the RSM. But I'd let it go for about $225, seeing as it has about 20 hours on it.

Update... I have the new Red Sea, in box sitting at my house.

I'll let the whole setup go for $700, and I'll help you set it up.

No, but it's being returned tomorrow. I bought a new tank to replace it and the LFS agreed to take the RSM back.

Probably good you decided to go bigger. Bigger should be more stable. Plus I've heard lately there've been some issues with production and engineering. :p

Yes, that was the final straw. I think it is best to keep these out of the hands of hobbyists until the issues can be addressed.

I looked at the thread you mentioned, and I have to say that most of the issues that guy seems to have had are easily resolved. He seemed a bit...impatient to say the least.

Well, the RSM is no longer for sale.

Shiveley, I'm not sure what you want me to say. Red Sea's customer support started out great, but only to a point. They aren't willing to remedy issues that can't be fixed by sending out a simple DIY fix. The hood on mine had a bad timer and they sent me a replacement timer. Great, right?

No, I paid over $700 for a product. I shouldn't have to crack it open and replace electronic parts. Same with the fans.

Also, I've had 2 tanks with bubbles and hairs in the front glass. Want to try a third? I think not.

This has primarily unfolded since I posted the for sale, so I don't want anyone to think I was trying to sell off a crappy product. I've been sorely disappointed with the issues on a product so expensive.

1. Overheating (requiring a fan modification and chiller that runs more than half the time to keep the tank below 80 degrees)
2. Bad light (remedied with my first replacement by the LFS)
3. Bad light timer (attempted to remedy with mailed repalcement parts requiring a DIY fix)
4. Tank with a bubble and hair in the glass (remedied with a replacement by the LFS)
5. Tank with some "gunk" and a bubble in the front glass (remedied with a third tank from my LFS)
6. Ungodly loud and obnoxious hood fans (remedied with, you guessed it, another DIY fix)
7. Crappy skimmer (no remedy)
8. Less than the rated 10x flow
9. Poor design on the chiller compartment (inlet and outlet are next to each other, causing short cycling of the chiller)
10. Poor design on the overflow (you can't fill the water to the top of the glass because then the overflow doesn't skim the surface, as it is underwater
11. I'm sure there is something else I'm forgetting

if i missed it, i apologize, but are you selling the chiller? if so, i'll take it for the price mentioned earlier.

Yeah, I guess it's a risk to get the early run of any product. Look at all the problems the first JBJ Nano Cubes had with cracking. Anyway, I get your point.

As the guy who made that thread, shiveley, suffice it to say that when the company refuses to honour their warranty because of an early build date, my patience ran out.

Glad to see you got rid of yours too petes97.
