Reefmack If you get banned over this let me know where you end up. I'll join you. ;)

I found the last resonse in that thread: "Just because a lot of folks never noticed something, doesn't mean the RC Staff is wrong about how the software works" very insulting. I joined this thread 6 splits into it and you were listed as the starter. You were still the starter last week.

Brent - will do! To be honest, I've felt insulted and belittled every time I've dealt with the mod gods. The one that made that statement that you quoted is just one example of how ignorant and clueless some of them are.

Brent F - It was Reefmack that invited me here in early December 2007 and he and you as well so many others patiently answered all of my numerous "Newbie" questions..... You all have been a graduate level course in keeping an RSM! :D

So like you Brent... If Reefmack is banned from the thread he started on Reef Central that is OBVIOUSLY ENORMOUSLY SUCCESSFUL, I will also follow Terry to a THREAD ON A FRIENDLIER FORUM!!

Guys, perhaps we're too haste in collectively labeling all mods as unreasonable. It seems to me that the mods on the the thread that you spoke probably didn't understand the entire situation. I suggest sending pm's to either beerguy or one of their admins could help. Again, I hate to see a lot of good, helpful reefers leave over a misunderstanding. Just my 2 cents.

I know the other day we were talking about ATO's and I was getting ready to order the JBJ but came across a local deal for a Coralvue ATO. Does anyone know anything about them? I have found a few places online carrying them but no reviews and all have exactly the same information.

Mrs. Peer Sorry, but beerguy is no different than the others. They all back each other up, right or wrong. Since they represent this forum to members they all need some serious training in dealing with people in a courteous manner, rather than being belligerant and rude. This thread below was my first instance - threats to be banned if any of us continued to recommend RSM owners visit the R S M r e e f e r s dot c o m site for RSM information and to see owners' tanks. Links in this post below and future links to the RSM site are now auto blocked and turned into RC links. The same with links to other forums. I was under the impression that these forums were for information exchange, but when the information is on another forum forget it! And the "unwritten rules" we're supposed to follow is a joke in itself - how can we follow unwritten rules that they make up as they see fit?

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1237121

The second instance was trying to send a link to a supplier of RO/DI units. Since the supplier was not a sponsor of RC, the links were blocked, as well as using their name in a post or even PM. Blocking information sending again!

Other forums have no problems with links to other forums, don't block links to non-supporting vendors, and don't change thread starter names - why even show a thread starter?

Anyway, I'm though discussing it. Rather than resolving issues, the standard answer from RC staff has always been "if you don't like it, leave". What a great way to deal with issues! What a wonderful attitude towards member satisfaction!

Thanks GDESQUIRE. This thread is what other people have made it, not me. It doesn't matter whether I'm the listed starter. What matters is that the staff needs to give members some credit for knowing what's going on. Unlike what they were telling me, it was not in our imagination that I was the starter till last week. Something changed and they are clueless about it, but rather than admit that, they deny it. If they admitted that they are clueless, they wouldn't be the omnipotent beings that they think they are. A simple answer that they had no idea what happened, rather than incorrectly saying it's been happening on every split, and that we just imagined the starter didn't change till last week, would have been a sufficient answer for me. They gang up on you like a pack of wolves, feeding on each others pride and self importance. That's the part that aggravates me the most. In any case, let's all just drop it. Some things will never change, and it'll be the last time I ever post a question to the staff here.

I just received my RSM and I am in the process of setting it up. I am going to order a Tunze 9002, StevieT's Media Rack and Skimmer Cup. I was curious what has been everyone's experience with the Red Sea substrate that comes with the starter kit. Should I use it or not? The substrate is about the size of bird seed and Brent F recommended getting sugar size substrate. I like the way a smaller size substrate will look, but I would like to use as much of the supplies provided by Red Sea starter kit.

kveille Welcome! I used the Red Sea aragonite when I set up the tank almost 16 months ago, and am happy with it. In fact I just added some more about a week ago, as some gets used up in buffering, and a lot of it was gradually pushed toward the back by the flow from my pumps against the front glass. To be honest I don't know the merits of using a smaller grained substrate - if it's personal preference, or some other benefit.

ReefMack...That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Plus, I am guessing it is ok to mix and match later.

kveille I'm also guessing, but I can't see any reason why you couldn't mix the two types.

DontXtripNfall - Enjoy the time in Cali (fornia I assume).

Something in the middle works best which is what your red sea sand sounds like. "bird seed" is a little bigger than sugar sized but still not coarse.

The key is if you use large, course substrate it will trap detrius. Crushed shells are also a detrius trap. If you use very fine substrate it won't allow flow through it and will compact going anaerobic. Also, your CUC won't be able to get into a very fine substrate and it will get blown around by your pumps clouding the water.

or Cali, Colombia :p

Brent I was almost certain there was another Cali, but just couldn't recall where. Thanks for the refresher. If it's Colombia, hopefully he's there for legitimate reasons. :eek2:

I guess the Tunze is skimming OK....3 days now according the fluid level lines on the skimmer cup I have about 100ml of a darker than tea color skimmate. I would post a picture but I can't find the memory card for my camera now. I will be doing a water change and cleaning out the cup a little later today so will have to see how it goes from there until I get my overflow from lifereef some time this week. Will definitely post pics as I get that and the refugium up and running.....The way things are going around here maybe I should start looking elsewhere to post??????????????

Keep on posting brycek! This thread has a life of its own and doesn't exist because of one person. :) Maybe you left the memory card in your PC or reader?
