Red Sea Reefer 170 build thread

I'm happy to hear great things about this tank seeing that I'll have one in a few months as well , I'm going with the white model to match all the trim in my front room , I picked up a xr30 G4 pro with reeflink mp40 witch I know is over kill but go big or go home right?
Thank for sharing your build love what you got going

I have the same tank and it's a great tank. I'd suggest looking at the Eheim compact 2000 for a return pump. I was using a Tunze silence pump and it was loud (I believe it's same motor block as the Sicce). I'm so much happier with the Eheim. Also, be careful with the humidity inside the stand since I noticed a lot of your electronics are in the stand. Inside my stand, I noticed a lot of moisture on the walls inside the stand.

Thanks for the tips. I notice the cabinet does get warm if moisture becomes an issue I'll have to maybe move them to the outside right side of the cabinet. I already ordered the sicce but I can return it if it's loud since I bought it on amazon.

I may pick up a second mp10 once I see how flow is inside with sand and rocks etc.

Always liked the 170. Would love to hear your thoughts on that skimmer when you have it up and running.

So a HUGE THANK YOU to Rich from Tampa Bay Saltwater who stayed up to watch the super bowl, and yet got up at 4:30am this morning so he could ship my rock out on the one nonstop southwest flight to MKE this morning. What a guy, and I really appreciate that! I should be picking it up around noon or 1 today, and will be sure to post plenty of pics. :)

Good start and equipment. I've been bouncing this tank vs the nano and I'm beginning to lean more towards the 170. My plan is like yours, to have this or the nano as a bedroom tank and a 300+ gallon in the wall. Should be buying house next year so I'm trying to decide what I want to carry up three flights of stairs while I'm in this condo...

Such excitement!! Rich, you have a customer for life! First, here are the boxes, with the live sand box opened already. Also here is a pic peeking into the live rock!

And some hitchhikers I found! One good, and two bad. Mantis shrimp and stone crab I believe. Both are sitting in a bucket, they were found in the bottom of the bag after swishing the live rock around.

But that blenny! What a great hitchhiker. And he was in my live sand bag!

And here is some pics of the rock and sand in the tank. The dust will settle soon!

Look at all the sponges! The rocks were covered in them!

Good job...that is a porcelain crab...good guy....and a wennerae......and you have tunicates on the rock!

Porcelain crab is into the tank! Once in a while I hear a pop sound... Makes me think a pistol shrimp may have managed to hang onto the rock no matter how hard I swished it. I hope he won't be a problem.

No worries with pistols...they are good guys...and the one you are hearing is about 1/4 inch long....you will never see them as they live symbiotically with the sponges and tunicates...
