Ive been trying to treat this stuff for over 2 months now and nothing seems to work.... I have had to take out all the rocks and clean the whole tank 3 times. Also i tried using the RedSlime remover and it still doesnt seem to work. It seems like is started building in my refugium and just took over my tank. i have a 37gal with cpr small hang on refugium and a rena filter. and help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

i have had that problem before.....it comes from high phosphates.....are you putting any tap water in the tank? make sure your ro water is actually ro!!! some stores dont change their filters.

im using distilled arrowhead water from safeway. Should i clean the rocks off with idstilled water or just brush them off in the tank?

red slime as in cyano baterial or diatom algea, in either case its phos problems, nitrates, to much light/for to long, and poor flow. All of these contribute to the algea

not sure the safeway water is any good, distilled water also loses a lot of nutrients. i would stick with ro. also, try and get out all of the algae you can and i wouldnt run anything but tank water over your rock

well its not safeway water is arrowhead water. So you think i should clean out my tank and clean off all the red slime in my tank? with the tank water? or ro or distilled water?

i would use ro water. if you are going to take your rock out, syphon out all the slime you can get without making a mess, then rinse off your rock, replace it and do a good water change with ro. once your slime is gone, use only ro, and it should not come back.

Try this, it worked for me. Take a tube 1/2" and start a siphon, suck all the red slime out as best you can. I would then do a water change about 20% in addition to what ever water you pull out. Use only RO RO/DI water when refilling. Then use the redslime treatment. Make sure to turn off your protein skimmer when doing this so you don't over flow your skimmer. Give it a day or two depending on which redslime remover you use and then start process again. understand that redslime removers are not the cure. You will need to get your parameters under control in order to bet this. Look into using Purigen. It helps with nitrates, nitrites, ammonias and helps to clarify water. Let me know if you have any further questions.

As was previously mentioned, pay attention to low flow areas in your tank. Also, I have had recent success by adding a dozen Mexican red leg hermit crabs (LFS description) to my 75 gallon reef. They seem to love the red slime for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Good luck!
