Red Slime Help!

i got red slime on my sand an my sand sifting goby wont touch it! how can i get rid of it? why do i always get red slime? I cant tell you my perameters cuase im out of testing supplies but hopefully i can get some soon. thanks in advance!

use red slime remover or a nice crushed capsule of penicillin works nicely too...seriously
ive used it before and it works...because the red slime "algae" is really a bacteria

theres a additive you can use an pick up from a local fish store.. an in advance MORE FLO..

Tap water im guessing. Has high phosphate and red slime loves this. Also poor water flow. Dont break it up this is bad. Water bubbles form under it and you can use a stick to remove gently.There are chemicals to cure it but removing all stock is recommended.

Im not sure of the distilled process im guessing its just heating. Never heard anyone useing this so cant say yea or nea. But I would use quility RO/DI water and mb increase flow.Have you checked your perms. and phosphate levels ?

He says its a reacurring problem and needs to find out how hes causing it.That may just be a band aid on a broken bone.

I have used red slime destroyer in the past and it gets rid of the stuff in under 48 hours with no grow back. The only thing is it is a powder and you need to make sure it fully dilutes. If the granules get on the coral that is not good. I put it in a bottle shake real good a couple of times and then pour it in the sump. Works great!!!

hmm ill try my red slime remover again but with your bottle technique. I tried it before and it got rid of it but i guess there was too much or something and it came back

Do you have a skimmer?

When I first set up my tank, I had a bout of the slime, but it went away after a few days. I would think that you would be much better off treating the source of the problem (too much nutrients in the water) than dumping chemicals in the tank, which would also have the potential of killing beneficial bacteria.

The stuff I have used is "RED Slime REMOVER" by UltraLife.

It is Red Slime Remover. I mis-quoted. Sorry for the confusion. If the red slime is bad enough it can take 2 treatments. I think you have to wait 48 hours before doing the second treatment and then let the system run for a week or so. It tells you on the package.
