OJsreef,

I had a our break of red slime and I blew it with a turkey baster and put in some phosGuard and it went away. No problems with clams or anything. I have never used red slime remover before, so I am sorry I can not help with that.

Never had an issue with it yet. I've seen dozens of people do it without issue. I like to recommend a small water change after treating...

I beleive most of these products are pottasium permagenate. As such they oxidise organics. Be very careful that you don't get it on the clam as it will oxidise tissue or whatever it touches. Also it will raise the ORP of the tank which can be used as a measure not to add too much.

I would try all other methods first suchas increased circulation where the cyano is, lowering phosphate levels, water changes.

I've used it a few week ago, for two consequent days. I've had three clams at that time: 6" derasa, 6" maxima and 2" crocia. So far, I didn't notice any changes in behavior or growth.

I could not measure any phosphate during and after treatment. There was a minor spike in nitrates, but still ten times less then maximum acceptable range for reef tanks (sorry, I don't remember the numbers). I did pull out as much slime as I could before treatment.

So, I would say, the RedSlime itself does not affect clams directly.

Simonh,
RedSlime is beleived to be an antibiotic.
