Red Star's "guts" out

Hoping someone has had experience with this... I recently added (1 week ago) a Red Bali Star to my tank. Yesterday morning I woke up to find what can only be described as his "guts" (red and white strings" coming out the back of him. Now he looks like he is either dying or dead (hard to tell). I have nothing in the tank that could have inflicted an injury of this type and my water params are all in order. Any idea what this could be? Is it some type of asexual reproductive activity? Sorry - no pics at this time, but I'll try and add some tonight.

I think that was the case. I had intended to drip acclimate it for 3-4 hours, but I had to cut it short because I had to leave the house unexpectedly.

Is there any need to quarantine a star?

Yes, stars can carry diseases, parasites & commensals just like any other item coming into a tank. If it's sick or dying take him out because you don't want it to die in the tank & spike your parameters.
