Plus be sure your alkalinity is about 8.3 and steady, just as a decent middle of the road place to be. Salinity 1.024---never raise salinity fast. no more than .001 every 15 minutes if you have to, and only by well-mixed saltwater, never dry salt.

I had a salinity "oops" in our biocube - went up close to 1.040 - the only thing that suffered and what had me checking everything was our starfish. He started to actually deteriorate. Almost looked like he was dissolving. He was the only thing showing any affects.
Happened about 4 months ago - I lowered salinity fairly quickly, probably quicker than I should but I know things tolerate drops better than rise.
He lost an arm and part of his body still looks like it was dissolved off but he is still alive, moving around and eating like normal.
He was definitely the most salinity sensitive critter we have.
