Or Botryocladia skottsbergii is growing on the back of my brain coral. Noticed it a week or two ago didn't know what it was but just looked it up and the pic looks just like what i have going on. What should I do? Take the coral out and scrape the stuff off or just leave it be?

SO i may have messed up. If every thing dies i might know why. I took the coral out and scraped some of the stuff off and it was kinda like a slimy goo coming out of them. I got some of it off but couldn't find tweezers so i could only get some. If anyone thinks that it will hurt, what should i do?

i had a tank full of that stuff added a yellow tang now its completely gone. i don't think the "goo" will hurt anything but letting that stuff go in your tank will make it spread like wild-fire.

i have a tank downstairs that still has it some. when a rock gets too much on it i just bring it upstairs ane 2 days later its clean as a pin.

cant add a tang to a 30. Not to much from what i can see but that could change fast.

if you let it get big it will kinda have a "stalk" on the bottom. you can grab that with a pair of tweezers without bursting the bubbles. thats the only way i've had any luck manually removing them.

also my lawnmower blenny will eat them some but not like the tang. you may be able to get one of those and try it.

wont it spread if i let it grow? Cant really add another fish pushing the limits as it is. 2 clowns, ywg, royal gramma, and a scooter blenny. in a 30 don't think more will work.

yea i suppose it will. if you can pull the rocks out and just try to grab the little stalks on the botton of each bubble. its time consuming but you can remove it that way. i know i spent 4 hours one night pick this stuff off some of my rocks.

if you can rinse the rocks off good in fresh saltwater before you put them back in. to get the "goo" off from the ones you do pop. as i'm sure you already know if that "goo" gets out that stuff will spread out of control.

As of now it is only on the brain coral but some of the "goo" did get in there. Should i be watching for a big outbreak?

yea its been my experience that you will be seeing more of it soon. as far as your coral goes i think it will be fine.

I have this crap too, i dont mess with it, it scares me. I hope that its growing because of the water i was using b4 i got my DI system and it will starve out one day.

I havent had a lot of bubble algae but have had a few here and there. The best way I found to remove them is to use a hypodermic needle of fine gauge,shove the needle in,pull the plunger out and you will never see the bubble again. Im not sure how many you have going but this will immediately and permanently remove them.

they havent poped back up yet so i think i might have got them.

i have used your technique on green bubble aglae and i agree it works. however it won't work on that red stuff they have a very slimy "goo" like stuff inside them. a small needle can't draw it up.
