Red&white shrimp for ID please

I think these are some sort of cleaner shrimp. They are about 1/2 - 3/4".

I'm really surprised to see those turn up. Are they in your tank or at a LFS? Anyway, they're Cuapetes kororensis, AKA popcorn shrimp because of the white head. In the wild they live in Heliofungia actiniformis & are rarely photographed with more than the head showing. It's abnormal for them to be out of the coral.

The original name was Periclimenes kororensis, then it was changed to Kemponia kororensis, and finally to Cuapetes kororensis. Most info on the web is still under Periclimenes.

That's exactly them. Thanks. There were a few of them at my LFS so I got a couple. They hang out with the clams and they move around mostly at night when they are most readily seen.

I hate to say it, but they probably won't last long without a heliofungia to host in. They feed off the tentacles just like anemone shrimp. I suggest you get a heliofungia if possible. It would be much appreciated by those guys!

Not a problem. After reading up on them I intended to pick one up this weekend. Heliofungia isn't expensive. Like I said, I thought it was an anemone shrimp. I didn't even know Heliofungia was a host to anything.

Well I added the Heliofungia but the shrimps didn't like it. I even pushed one towards it and about 1 hour later, the shrimp is hiding under a rock nearby.

I've added a pic. The Radiums give off a horrible colour, but you can see the shrimp's head peeking out from under the rock at 12 o'clock.

Yeah probably. I just added it today. One of the shrimps made a return. It was sitting in the coral when I passed by and when I came back it was hanging out just under the coral. The shrimps don't do much and the bright green of the coral doesn't hide the shrimp too well; doesn't seem like evolution took the right path :spin2:

It isn't so much as for hiding as it is for food.

Woo! That coral went downhill fast, it's almost dead. Weird.
