redbugs?

how do you get rid of these things if you do not have interceptor? i dont plan on getting it so dont recommend getting it, i know that would be the easiest way to get rid of red bugs but interceptor is not an option....

all i have as far as acros goes is a red planet... i have one that is attached to the rock and another little frag on a plug.... if i take these 2 corals out will the red bugs die and if so how long will it take? will the red bugs go to and feed off on my softy corals that i have... ? i do know that they only like the smooth skinned acro, but my red planet is not smoothed skinned but i still have them...


i do have some tmpcc but i dont think that would take care of the red bugs.. there was a time where people didnt know to use interceptor and they had redbugs and they had to get rid of them some how.... im just wandering how!

Dip interceptor or get rid of all acros. Those are your options for eliminating red bugs.

In your case, I would set up a QT tank, and put your acropora in it. Run interceptor through the QT - and do it three times, a week apart.

If you get rid of all acros how long must the tank be without any acros before you should attempt reintroducing some from a clean source?

i just read the tank needs to be empty for 5 days but 10 would be better for the die off of red bugs after acros are removed.... is there any truth to this?

so it looks like i will lose both red planets that i have..... for me to get interceptor i would have to take my dog for a visit and then have to pay for the interceptor... would be cheaper for me to just buy new red planets.... i understand that i could get the interceptor and use it for later use in case this happens again.....


so if i lose both red planets the red bugs will die off? they wont mysterious go over to my frogspawn and start eating off them will they? or what about i have some dead birdsnest in there, they wont eat off that will they?

so i have been reading about some different parasites..... redbugs, flatworms etc.... since i may be losing my red planets anyways i decided to dip it in some tmpcc... foound out that i may have the flatworms as well....

now i have just purchased 2 wrasses.. a lineatus and a yellowfin fairy wrasse... my question is will these wrasses eat the flatworms?

and if they do how long do you think that it would take for the wrasses to get the problem under control? now i know there is no sure way to say a exact date, just wanting an estimated time...

Revive will kill redbugs. About 2 weeks ago I came home and noticed poor polyp extension on a few acros. I looked at them closely and could see the red bugs running all over the corals. I quickly started searching and even found some Interceptor locally.

However I came across a post on that other Nano Reefing site where people had great success using Revive. So I decided to pull the frags out that had Red bugs and treated them. I left them in the solution with flow for about 15 minutes. At the 8 minute mark, red bugs were jumping ship and by the time 15 minutes came around I could count about 80 of them at the bottom of the cup. I swirled the frags in the solution and in clean tank water (in a different cup of course) for a couple seconds. Then when I put the corals back into the display, I blew them off with my Vortech just for good measure.

I inspect those 3 frags daily and thus far no red bugs have come back and the polyps are coming out much more than they used to. So I know that Revive will do the trick.

Revive can kill redbugs, but it is NOT 100% effective. You typically won't have total dieoff from revive, and you will still have redbugs in your system which will reinfect the frags.

Interceptor is the ONLY 100% effective intank treatment. Seey above post for other options.
