Rediculous LFS advice

LFS once told me that I could fit 8 fish in a 29 gallon tank. Also that a Yellow tang would do fine in a 29gallon tank...

being new and clueless ( which I still am) I was told to squirt a bottle of pods in to my sump and they would take to the sump and populate the water column....months later I find out the bottle sold to me did not have live pods. hmmmm

Here's another one from Tropical Kingdom. Now I know what they look like when they are expelling waste, but they tried to tell me that a really sick looking one was molting. It kind of looked like it was decaying even though it was still alive.

I guess I should ask - do they molt? Is the joke on me? :spin2:

Does what molt? You didn't say what "it" is. :)

Crustaceans (shrimps, crabs) molt. Leathers shed, so it kind of appears they are molting in a way. But what are you asking about?

having worked at majestic in the distant past, and worked for tim when he owned SW i cant even begin to think of the best ones, it was one giant load of BS. and dont get me started about the garbage advice from the guys at tropics when that was still around. im kinda shocked im still even in the hobby and that anything i had lived. but every time i think ive heard everything i go into oasis and talk to hector, and i hear something brand new that is completely bogus. and no amount of honey is going to fix reef problems. best one i have seen lately was buy a guy trying to scam a shop out of a refund. while i was sitting at a LFS, a guy came in with a dead shark demanding a new shark, he said his water was perfect he got it tested by Tropical Kingom, i reach over and smell the cup with his tank water, it smells like death, the customer refuses to have it tested by sws, and says TK tested it and it was fine so how could it get bad from TK to there, and after an hour of watching this guy making an a$$ out himself, and the shop rep trying to make the guy happy, the shop rep tells the scam artist that maybe TK is the store for you and my advice is that you not come back and if you would like the store owner to tell you to get the heck out ill dial him so you can hear from the owner that he should get the heck out of his store.

I was told at petco once that I could keep a powder brown and powder blue tang in my 75g with no problems. I laughed.

once that guy fins out he paid 120 for a 30-45 dollar tops fish he is gonne be all bent out of shape. Thats what some stores never see, yeah you can rip someone off for a fish and make a windfall profit once, or get em a fair price and sell em a lot of fish over several years. Problem I see is people get ripped of then still go back!!!!!

So I cannot remember the pods I bought brand name...nutrimar maybe? I looked them and they are supposed to be live. I explained what I had bought at another store and was told I didn't get live pods. Go figure..

Another example of the blind leading the blind...my apologies for my incorrect post.

Anybody remember the first Frag Auction in Tucson? It was held at "Hector's" original location, believe it or not. It went great in spite of hector, lol. Remember Hector's criptic post and the long thread after trying to get him to explain it? I used to laugh when he said "I clean my corals daily" and looked at their condition and the "Pristine water quality" they were in, lol. I called him the Pied Piper for the way he mesmorized some newbies.

Of course he "cleans his corals daily". That's the only way to keep the algae off of the rare albino acropora.

I really enjoyed this thread awkarius and mr right you two are hysterical!!

One time I walk into the lfs and this kid who services tanks was going to make a purchase. I overheard him talking about riding his clients tanks of aptasia. Low and behold he purchases two "cleaner" shrimp!! He realized these may not be the right ones after walking out of this guys store. Then he turns around and explained the situation and looked like the biggest fool! :lmao: Take note this guy services tanks!

A lfs employee told me the white anemones are the healthy ones! lol More like the dying unhealthy ones..

I took my bluethroat trigger into the lfs to trade him in for money. The employee took the fish to a holding tank and plopped the bag in there. I was looking around their store for a hr or two at fish and corals.

The guy who took my fish just came back into the store after a smoke break. I said, how did the acclimation go. He said I'm so sorry I totally forgot!!! WHAT!! We quickly walked over to the bag. He dumped the water releasing the fish. Shocked, I watched my fish slowly sink going from left to right. He was breathing incredibly fast. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! :worried2:

I was so sad as that was one of my favorite fish. I called in the next day to see if he made it and they said he's doing great! I had to see for myself and he was actually swimming laps like nothing happened. :fun4

When I was somewhat new to the hobby, I had my 125 and was at SW when it was Rob's place, and I was told to add sugar to my tank and it'll help with the beni bacteria, I added sugar.....tank RUINED! My beautiful tank was cloudy as heck, alot of my coral died, and it was never the same after that. For me now, if it doesn't say it's for saltwater, I wont use it, except certain foods.

you can add sugar right? Isn't that an alternative to vodka dosing? As in the VSV method, vodka, sugar, and vinegar..
