Reef-A-Palooza 2007

Let's say 40 vendors each bring an avg of 40 corals, some will bring 20-100 ..

That is 1600 corals that people are hoping to sell, let's hope that over 5000 people come to this event.

Reefmeister, what is the expected turnout?

We expect 1,500 - 2,000 people to attend, but I wouldn't be surprised to see even larger crowds considering the popularity of this venue. I've said all along..."You get the Fair Grounds, and they will come" :)

We now have on board what I like to call "The Big Six":
1) Tom Aquarium Products
2) United Pet Group
3) Current-USA
4) CPR Aquatics
5) SeaChem
6) Red Sea

not to mention literally DOZENS of other great companies (PFO Lighting, Euroreef, Marine Depot, etc. etc.)
....so this should be a GRAND showcase event!

We are currently 95% sold out, with only a half dozen or so booths left available.

There are 70+ vendors in total with rougly half being live-goods vendors....and only half of those are what we can call "quantity dealers"; the rest comprising of hobbyist-level selling at much lower volumes, relatively speaking.

Last year, there were not NEARLY enough livegoods to satisfy demand, so please do not underestimate the amount of goods that will be sold. I've even negotiated to have an ATM machine installed INSIDE the building, specifically for our event! :D

great thinking about the ATM. think positive Frankie. it's going to be the best frag swap the country has ever seen. probably the world and the fame will spread far and wide and the next one will be even bigger and better.

thanks to all for putting it together.

Carl

so how much for the admission at the gate ?

Only $5 for Adults

Children 12 and under are FREE

Don't forget that the Orange County Market Place is going on right next door to us too (handstamps will be provided so you can get back into Reef-A-Palooza)

FWI, there is also a Cat Show going on next door in Building 16 if that kind of thing tickles your fancy. :)

We will also have plenty of Food and Drink vendors too, so plan to make this a full-day event.

Is there any way to pre-order some tickets?

YES!
We have them already printed and ready for sale.

Reef-A-Palooza 2007 tickets are only $5 each for adults
(children 12 and under are admitted free)

We also offer a quantity discount of 1 free ticket for every 4 sold.

Is there any chance of Neptune Systems or another controller company attending? Either that or some other place there selling a AC Jr, Reefkeeper2,etc. for cheap :).

I e-mailed Curt on three different occasions trying to get him interested in a booth for RAP. He didn't respond to any of my e-mails. Can't say I didn't try.
Ironically, I'm an ACIII Pro owner too.

Aww... I was kinda hoping to save up and buy an AC Jr and a whole bunch of other equipment... or just a Deltec AP701 or AP851 . So, I guess I'll have to get the controller afterwards.

Well if Neptune doesn't want in, contact Digital Aquatics............they're in Washington, so it's not like it would be a cross country trip for them. I'm looking at the vendor list & if I was a West Coast company in the Marine Aquatics business, there is no way I'd miss this event.

NOTE: We have eliminated the Tier 3 category due to lack of interest.

ah man! where would this hobby, club, or event be without the hobbyist level coral propagater?

What happened to Reef-A-Palooza being about promoting responsible aquarium keeping and coral propagation?

From its humble beginnings as a backyard style frag swap in Marc's backyard, to now a trade show event that shuts out the little guy from particpating other than as a consumer.

The backyard style frag swaps will always be the foundation of this hobby.

Three cheers for the little guys who prop for fun and learning and to trade and sell with their fellow hobbyists!

The key words here are "lack of interest"

No one would committ to a mere $25 registration fee

However Tier 2 booths were selling like hotcakes.

We cater to whatever the majority wants...

what my seem "virtuous" at first does not always turn out to be feasible in actual practice.

In any case, this is not a fragswap...This is a world-class event for the Marine aquarium industry as a whole. Backyard frag swaps will not be threatened by Reef-A-Palooza by any means.

However I should point out..
after talking to some of these vendors, I can almost guarantee that you will see more frags at Reef-A-Palooza 2007 than you have seen in your entire life!

Chris, three cheers for sure. i consider myself a real little guy and i feel lucky to be able to participate. should be a long fun day. i just hope i can talk my wife into coming to help me.

i am bringing stuff i have had going in the Sharkdude frag tank.

theway i read it the tier three spots were only canceled due to lack of interest. the availability was there until no one signed up.

Kevin,

You are doing a heck of a job at promoting this hobby, the club and reef-keeping in general. I just wanted to take a moment to say that to you and thank you on behalf of all of us reefers.

For those that complain about the frag pricing, good or bad, it is what it is. The market drives the pricing. If you have great stuff that is rare it's usually expensive. If you are selling common corals that can be found in almost all our tanks then the pricing will reflect it.

Bottom line is this will be the event of events in the reefing community with folks coming from all over the country to browse and observe and, yes probably purchase a few items to take back home. Let's all show them how seriously we take this hobby, behave responsibly, rationally and be good hosts.

Myself I'm looking forward to seeing and interacting with my friends in the hobby. Exchanging tall tales about how well my tank is doing and how little work it is to keep it beautiful.

We're going to have great speakers and you can't put a price on the collective expertise that will be in the room. I encourage anyone who is even remotely thinking of an aquarium to attend. Nowhere on earth can you get the collective experience in one place and have all your questions answered politely for a paltry $5 bill admission fee.

Kevin this is exciting and I see it as a huge success that will soon bring national attention to SCMAS and Reef-A- Palooza.
