reef Angelfish

whos every had or has a larege angel fish in there SPS tank besides a swallowtail and it dosen't nip at the corals

I have done a lot of research on angels and reef setups and it seems that the safest is the Genicanthus species. There are some very cool fish. With that said there are several people on here that keep other angels successfully. I personally have never done it. I have asked my LFS to order a Genicanthus Watanabei Male but they are hard to get a good specimen due to decompression when they bring the fish up. So far I have been unsuccessful in locating a fish and I am too scared to purchase online, as I no longer have a quarantine tank setup.

I have a red sea regal and a potters; both model citizens. I got themboth when they were tiny and got them eating before any sps were in the tank though. I did have a squamosa clam in there when they went in.

Most drawf angels can (and do) work... just they don't always work (have a back up plan if it doesn't work out).

My problem is if I get an angel and it doesn't work out I don't think I can catch it. And I have way too much money in corals to take the chance.

Pennoyer i was thinking about a regal but was told by so many people that they eat LPS zoos and sps what is your opinion on that??

Some of the larger angels are OK with just SPS. Most all will eat zoa's, and then there are various degrees of appetite for LPS and such. BTW, a 65g tank is too small for any of the large angels.

aharrow - use a fish trap. I have one. Every single one of my fish has gone into the trap at one time or another. Works great.

There is no truely safe angel for a reef tank other then the Genicanthus sp. No matter how many people come in here and say this or that angel is reef safe, it's not always the case and you always run a risk.

I would think the zoas would be toast quickly; I had a magestic in my old tank and it took to zoas and button polyps almost immediately. I've read the same about zoas and regals. I don't have, nor plan to add any zoas in this tank, so I'm not worried about it nor do I know if this angel would eat them. The potters took almost a month and half before eating anything except picking at the LR and glass. He seems to pick all day long, but all my sps and one clam are always open, so he must be leaving them alone. As said though, angels are hit and miss with corals. I think though that the regal and potters are about the safest out there, except the geni varieties.

I've had my goldflake for three full years now, doesn't bother clams, zoos, softies, or acros. But, when I first got him he leveled an elegeance overnite. I now have predominately acros and a couple of croceas. I'm just one of the lucky ones I guess.

are they some what reef safe ?
