Hello Andy,
Amazing progress, and amazing place :) love your thread, please keep up the good work :)

I feel like I have to thank you for sharing this with us, absolutely amazing :)

I have to thank you for second time, I have been trying to convince my uncle to let me build a large reef tank in his place (he is a surgeon) for the past year and a half, and finally I could get through his head with ure thread :) his place is kinda similar. Not in Canada, so I will be traveling to where he is in the next couple months to start the project for him. so a big THANK YOU !!

cant wait to see it in action :) and the lights look amazing, specially the tilted ones towards the back !!!truly a masterpiece.

I am really happy that you and your uncle find this thread useful. I also hope your uncle will have a great tank.
Thank you very much for your nice words and good luck.

These clownfish looks like Wyoming Perculas produced in Puerto Rico...

Ur tank is awesome...Congrats from the Shinning Star of the Caribbean...Puerto Rico

I bought mine as platinum percula, that's all I know about them.
Thanks for the info anyway.
I would like to visit sometime Puerto Rico.

very nice. so does that plastic sheeting under the island formations stay in the tank? The islands are reef rock just mortered together with the cement?

Yes, the plastic will stay under the islands and these are made of cement and reef rock.

also what is that fine sand being hand applied to the wet cement in the photo all about?

That is not sand, is salt to increase the porosity of the cement when it dissolves.

Thanks for stopping by!

Andy

if you dont mind me asking how much was it to make this tank? im interested in making one almost this size one day lol and it is looking vary nice good job to you and everyone else helping on this tank

I really never calculate what money I have spent with this tank or with the animals I will have. I think it depends on who is doing the job and where you buy everythink from. There are many factors that can influence the price of a tank.
I am lucky to have friends that help me so the prices were lower. I don't know what to tell you but if I were you I would prepare around 100.000$.

Thanks

Andy

You should fill the tank with water so you can stabilize the PH from the cement.
I wanted to do so Shawn but I didn't have the pumps. I paid thousands of dollars and I got them just today, after two weeks:

Tomorrow I will fill it up. Hope won't be any incidents even if the insurence is been paid.

Thanks!

Andy

i was wondering if there was a way to just but about 6in of tap water in your tank.
that way the salt used can dissolve and the concrete can leach out. that way your not using good filtered water. (that you would possibly have to drain)

a small submersible pump would be fine for water movement.

andy, ive been following your thread and this is amazing! if i might ask, if not to intrude, what is your profession? i find it awesome that there are so many different ppl from different professions with this awesome hobby. you being so busy with work makes this thread that much more awesome because of your dedication.

Projects of this magnatude really intrigue and facsinate me. Love the aquascaping/rockwork. Will be checking back often for updates.
