Reef Cam Help

I use a panasonic. Wireless. VERY easy to setup. Panasonic provides a free static ip service like dyndns. The camera pans around is motion activated. They have models that will zoom and everything

Yeah, but its password protected right now. I have to undo that. Part of the problem of the simplicity of the system is that I don't "understand" the setup. It was all autopilot

Well phishlet you have a choice the one you gave a link to or the Logitech Orbit MP:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2204,CONTENTID=10628

Here is the fall backs of each. Orbit isn't wireless, but if you need to go over.. I think it's 16 feet? Then USB extension cords would do you no good.(there is a way to extend this further with a special hub I could tell you about, that is another $40) The orbit will fallow movement if you want it to just like the Panasonic.

The Linksys is more expensive, but it's wireless. It's fall back might not be a fall back to you. The quality of the images isn't as great and on a website you may not want a super high quality image. However what happens if you decide to take a video of a cave to see if that fish is indeed living there and the blur on your low quality image is to fuzzy to even tell if that thing that moved was a fish.

So if you know anything about digital cameras it would be like having an old old cheapest on the market, like 1998 for $100, that you don't need to run a cord to or.... a new nice digi cam that can turn and look around and you can see everything clearly, but you have a cord.

Installing special Active X control is a bit annoying and will drive a lot of newbs to computers and people who don't you may not trust it. But god damn man, AWESOME tank and I like the set up of being able move the cam once your in. There is no easy way to build that image into your own site though is there? I know why you have a password on it. (Nice trigger t-shirt btw.) That's one of the major problems with my bed room filled with tanks. A panning camera or a cam with a good reflection going to it at the wrong time could just be... bad.

God I am so jealous. I hate being a broke college student, lol.

yeah... unfortunately I don't really think a wired version will work for me because I don't have a computer within 16 feet of my tank for sure. I've read the quality of the Linksys model is decent but darker shades of color tend to always turn out purple. That's not so great....

Oh well... any other options anybody would recommend?

There are many fish I can see, but can't even tell what species some of them are. I geuss I'm to picky as far as it comes to quality, but I believe there is a world of difference.

Man i still can't get mine to broadcast i think its my stuiped McAfee i hate it. It blocks that port and one of my game ports. The people at mcafee say there is no way to unblock them. I can play most all games but it blocks Farcry:(

The features in this one still sound outstanding:

From the articles I've read online (this camera is still very new so there's not a lot of info out there) it sounds like everthing works great but darker colors appear purple. I wonder how much of this would be an issue since we're looking to use webcams on our aquariums where the lighting will already tend to skew the colors somewhat. Also, I wonder if the articles are referring to performance in average or low light conditions. Our aquariums wouldn't really be considered low light. :D
