Nowhere in my 23 years in the pet industry have I seen a more dedicated group of hobbyists than exists in the aquarium hobby.
It is also evident that there needs to continue to be multiple methods to disperse knowledge and education, especially for those entering the hobby for the first time . Of course education does not stop there as we are all still learning .
Information sources today come from many sectors including online , retail fish stores, books , LiveAquaria.com technicians , hobby clubs etc. Of all mentioned , I really value the clubs as they tend to represent a variety of hobbyists ---most with a wealth of up-to-date experience and education ready to be shared.
I would urge all hobbyists to participate in their local Reef or Hobby Club as well as the wonderful national organizations such as MASNA ( Marine Aquarium Societies Of North America)-- masna.org. I see strength for the hobby through these organizations and they represent no commercial entity.
I have a life long commitment to education and I currently serve on the Board of Directors at the College of Veterinary Medicine , Michigan State University . A personal goal of mine is to encourage more education for this great hobby which will improve our image and help sustain the future. You are the leaders , please join a club today.
