SuperAWE,

Thank you for your inquiry. While all of the reef salt we have tested has been within the parameters listed by Kevin, the LiveAquaria Director, we will be happy to test the Reef Crystals salt currently in our warehouse. The test results will be posted on Monday.

As usual, you can't beat DFS in the customer support/relations category!!!

Thanks again!

I just received a bucket of RC today from That Fish Place and plan to test it tonight. I'm hoping I am not effected by this Aquarium systems QC issue. If I am, I can only hope TFP will be half as accomodating as DFS has been.

I've never ordered aquarium supplies from DFS (I have ordered plenty of dog supplies from them), but based on their INCREDIBLE display if customer service here, I will soon be placing my first aquaria order with this exceptional company.

Just wanted to offers props where props are due.

DFS has been a class act all along through this. They're going to be the first company I point to as an example of good customer service.

I have to say that I've been extremely impressed with politeness, professionalism, and consideration demonstrated by all of the DF&S staff in responding to our concerns.

Race, you have a quality company, and a quality team.

DF&S will be my reference standard for customer service and support from now on.

I could not agree more. I purchase much of my reefing supplies through DFS for my saltwater projects and will continue to do so. With the last forty buckets shipped possibly suspect, they have been more than accommodating in helping me get to the bottom of this. I have used Reef Crystals salt solely and have many of their commercial systems in use today (Marineland). I think the company makes a great product, and sometimes, well $hit happens, and its good to have folks at DFS in your corner when they do. I personally have had very mixed results with Marineland customer service, so I do not purchase directly from them any longer. I just do not have the time (or patience) to deal with people who are not on my side as the customer when the few problems do arise.

Thanks again folks at DFS for setting the gold standard!

DFS will be the only supplier I deal with. They have the best no questions asked return policy and stood behind their product.

Thank you DFS for the two replacement buckets. Even if they were to test low again, your're not to blame; it's the thought of the customer that counts. You are an extreme good example to other retailers in this hobby!

DFS is #1!!!

Test Results January 7, 2008 Drs. Foster and Smith

SuperAWE,

On Friday January 4th we received a new pallet of 36- 160 gallon mix pails of Reef Crystals salt mix from our main warehouse. On Sunday morning January 6th, I mixed a full 160 gallon bucket from this new pallet with RO/DI water that had a TDS of 0. Later on that day I recalibrated one of the conductivity meters we use in house with a brand new bottle of American Marine 53mS calibration solution. After calibration, the batch of water was adjusted to 1.0259/53mS.

This morning January 7th, after 24 hours of mixing, I added approximately two gallons of RO/DI to adjust the batch to exactly 53mS after 24 hours. I proceeded to wait an additional 30 minutes, and then used a clean glass 500 ml beaker to collect water for testing. The following results were obtained from the test kits/procedure stated in my previous post on this thread.

Specific Gravity- 1.0259/53mS
pH- 8.28
Alkalinity- 12.7 dKH
Calcium- 415 mg/L
Magnesium- 1280 mg/L

Once again, we have continuously tested Reef Crystals salt used in our facility, and the results gathered on each new pallet meet our standards for quality and consistency. I am very confident using Reef Crystals sea salt in my personal SPS aquariums and in our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life facility here in Rhinelander Wisconsin.

Thank you for the upate Kevin.

I received 11 160 gallon buckets of Reef Crystals today (order number N8321099-1). I am currently mixing one complete bucket in my Ryan Herco container and will do a test in the morning.

Seeing that what you tested is a new pallet you recently received, would the salt that I received today be considered a possible problem?

Robert,

The pallet of Reef Crystals salt we use on a weekly basis in our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life facility is pulled from the same bin locations that we utilize to fulfill orders placed by our valued customers.

Kevin, thanks for the post, but I'm not sure what you are tying to point out. Are you saying there is no problem with this pallet, or there has never been a problem?

I believe earlier in this thread, it was mentioned that DFS would be doing their own testing on the salt currently in their warehouse, in addition to any testing done by Marineland.

I'm guessing that DFS was doing this in response to many customers in this thread questioning whether any replacement pails of RC or any new orders placed were up to par, or possibly lacking in some key elements. I would assume that Kevin, as director of Liveaquaria, conducted these tests personally. I didn't read into it that he is saying there were no past issues, only that the current batch is ok.

Before, I purchase my next few buckets of Reef Crystals from DFS I would like to know what the current batch they have in stock tests out at. It would definitely save the hassle of myself, others, and DFS of the burdensome returns/credits/samples to send cycle if it is still testing low.

My previous post was made to list the testing results from 1- 160 gallon Mix bucket of Reef Crystals salt that was pulled from our current inventory. This inventory is what we are shipping our valued customers at this time.

Kevin,

While we have your attention... I just want to say thank you. When I first started this hobby I kept hearing people say "Drs Foster and Smith have the best customer service". Then, I would see good stories here and there about good customer experiences which made me feel confident in my purchases.

However, with the level of customer service you and your company have exhibited in reaction to the salt problem I can tell you that you've created a customer for life.

Never in my life as a consumer have I witnessed a company stand by thier customer as you have.

THANK YOU!

Ben

I put my samples in a FedEx drop box last night. I've got a new batch of RC from the same bucket brewing and almost ready for testing, been going about two days. I just need to adjust the temp and SG. Thank you for your excellent customer service.

Ok, tested mine at 1.025 at 76 degrees with my salifert test kit and got 335! No wonder I've been having lower Ca readings. I'm glad the good Dr.s are working to remedy this.

Kevin,

Thanks for that update!!! I am glad the salt is testing better! I will be placing my order today for more salt.

Once again, thank you for the continued excellent customer support.

What info do we need to supply to Marineland when sending in samples?

I'm really not sure. I had called them before i sent the salt so they knew it was coming.
