I just switched from Reef Crystals to Tropic Marin Salt but I'm relatively new to SPS so I won't be able to tell if the salts are the cause to any results I see. I wanted to know which one experienced SPS keepers prefer.
both salts are fine IMO,they both mix to very consistant levels,i switched from reef crystals because i wanted to keep my alk levels closer to natural.i have found both I.O. salts to read between 10 to 11dkh.lots of people like keeping their alk at this level, and my older tank did just fine with this level also.it just depends on your preferences.the important thing to me is that both are very consistant.
Tropic marin salt and Reefcrystals are great products but overpriced.
I use instant ocean and spend less than 50 cents to raise the calcium and alkalinity and I get the same product as reefcrystals.
with TM you can do 200 g a bucket and RC is 160g. and I like that TM mixes up a lot faster then RC and I was starting to fine cardboard in my RC mix which I did not like but that could be just me.
why not oceanic i have used atleast 2000 gals of that and it works perfectly i use it in all my systems with lot of sps and clams never had a problem always crystal clear and always right on point to what i want.
I use RC it is a few dollars more then IO and is made for reef tanks. But who really knows what is best? I expect if you use fresh sea water that is the best thing for a reef tank.

I have only used tm pro. But is a bit expensive. I have only had my tanks set up for 2 months and 4 months. everything is great. When i was in this hobby some years ago i used instant ocean and had no problems eather. I never checked paramiters as much as i do now. Everything is always stable with tm pro.
