Hello fellow farmers! :)

Just found a couple of old threads the boss had going -

Reef Farm Operations Pt. 1

Reef Farm Operations Pt. 2

Pretty interesting to read back through now! Since the thread had some interest after the boss stopped working the farm day to day - goodbye, farmer, hello, farmergirl - I thought I would post back and see if anyone had any questions. :)

I know there might be a few other outdoor farmers around here somewhere - come on in so I can get to know you! :) I have TWO local forums that I have to post on all the time, and friends over at talking reef I really need to go hang out with, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of browsing time over here. Feel free to pm me, too!

Where are your other forums?? Interested in following you there. Also I'm going to Myrtle beach this summer and would like to stop by, where exactly are you??
Thanks

Love your avi, jmccoya! =D I am not sure whether it is okay to link other forums on here - in our local forums it isn't - so I will send you a PM! It would be great if you were coming on May 15th to raleigh - ReefSMART! =D The farm is closed that day, though, so I wouldn't be able to give you a tour - but you would get to see all the best vendors from "the carolinas and beyond"! ;) Let me know whenever you are coming, we can set an appointment for you to look around if you are not there on an open day. Thanks for the reply, hope to get to meet you - we are about 2 hours away from Myrtle Beach - in Raleigh, NC - would be a nice day-trip!

LOL.........Puffy what have you started here???? Sounds like your gonna need the continue the thread here or you'll be pm' Ing forever!

Lol, I am not sure, I was just thinking the same thing! =0

What a warm welcome!

I am not sure when it stops being an informational thread and when it starts breaking a rule on here - but on the forums in the carolinas it is the moment you post something that links to any prices or sales - or link to anything that links to any prices or sales, lol. Just want to be sure I am not breaking any rules - would hate to get kicked off as soon as I get on for the first time in years! :D

Hey Puffy

Tell the boss that Jake Levi said Hi, from back when he was just starting the looking into this all and was checking out my articles on GARF. Really glad its going !

Boss says hello Jake, wants to know how you are doing! =D He told me that you revolutionized the cultured rock industry with your recipe for aragcrete a few years ago - I thought I had been following GARF pretty well for the past eight years, but apparently I missed a few updates! =0 What's new these days?

I met the boss just a few years ago at the RAS Workshop - I used to own a retail store in the area, just a few miles from the farm, really, (probably was on his list of potential customers, lol) and was in the market for the next great thing. Lucky for the boss, lol, I decided he was it - or rather, the farm was. ;) I thought I was grilling him, but I was getting an interview! =0

Glad to be in contact with so many of you! =D

i have viewed a few of the links, and they tell a little about sells and pictures of individual frags, but how about some NEW UPDATED farm pictures?
some outside, inside, and some of the tanks and such? (you can mix in a few coral shots too)

Its been a while. (any narrating would be sweet too.)

Please don't make me take any more pictures of the coral, lol, I will take scene shots of the farm all day, that's easy - but I hate trying to make coral pose right for me and not drop my camera in the water, lol - I actually give away frags to local hobbyists so they will do it for me - I don't really take my own coral pics! =/ I know, I am terrible...but there are some photography buffs 'round here that don't mind!

You must have missed the info site, we had ALL that stuff up for a few years and then let the domain name go just last year - the .org one. I have been bugging the boss to get it back through our other site, just put all the information and pictures there....but I probably have some scene shots of the farm I can dig up - or take new ones - am I allowed to post that here?

I remember looking at all the build pics and would love to see some new shots. Unfortunately I forgot even where those are. I hope you can put pics on here or point me in the right direction. I want to see updates.

equipment and greenhouse pictures are what im after.... (equipment, the heard to the system)

but some coral pictures are good too. (but prefer the equipment)

... and yes even a few coral shots!
Those are against the forum rules. It's a commercial entity posting pictures of the product. I'm pretty sure any shots of the layout, equipment, operation, etc. that are educational for others who might be looking to start a similar operation would be okay.

An alternative is the forums at MOFIB, which is aimed at marine ornamental aquaculture and where this stuff is expected. Not much ion coral propagation there though --- Yet. :)

Jeff

Jeff, would she be following the rules if she were taking pictures of the vats and there were colonies or frags in it, but as long as she didn't focus on the actual coral, or give any macro shots?
That way your really not selling, or showing thing's that would persuade a person to buy from them?
That way its still in the informational caregory and aids in coral placement suggestions for those looking to persue this type of business in the future
