Hi all,
are there any members from the east end of the island (east of Riverhead)? I am on the north fork (Mattituck). I am fairly new to salt water aquariums. I have been reading and learning a lot on my own, but would like to meet other local aquarium enthusiasts. I have been looking into joing the LIRA. I would like to learn a little more about it and the people in it before I join, being that it would be an hour drive each way for me to make the meetings. I would like to know a some people I can talk to/ask questions.

Cheers.

Good to know theres people out here. If anyone goes to the LIRA meetings I would be interested in learning a bit about them... or any other local groups / resources. I have been reading a lot on my own, and pestering people from my lfs.

We meet 1st Fridays in Commack right off LIE exit 53, Wicks Road.
Most months we bring in a speaker on current topics.
Feb. will be around table discussion of problems members are facing & the solutions.
Not anything else strictly salt unless you go to Brooklyn & they split meetings between salt & fresh. Manhattan Reefs is an online resource with a lot of participation.

IM in riverhead, anytime you would like to trade frags let me know. LIRA is great but I do know where your coming from with the drive.

ps NERAC is a must since its sooooo close

I was looking at that. I would like to go, I wasn't sure if I should do conference and lunch, or dinner as well. I also figure I might as well get an aquarium pass.

I would be happy to meet up. My small tank is going to be my coral tank. it should be just about ready for live stock now.

You don't have to join to go to a meeting. Its $5.00 to attend and if you decide to join you can pay the difference. their are coral auctions and a 50/50 at each meeting.
