Reef Hot Spot anemones

Has anyone ordered anemones from them? If so, was it a good or bad experience? The reason I ask, is I ordered a blue gigantea last week, and I think it's been dyed. The foot is solid blue. When I asked them about it, they said they don't sell dyed animals. I'm hoping they're right, but I'm not too sure. I'm looking for some experiences out there that may be good (or bad) with their stuff. Thanks.

I'm local also and thats my favorite lfs. Max would never sell anything bad and I got my rbta from there. They have the most integrity.

Thanks for the responses. I'm glad the locals know them and have good things to say about them. I'm very happy with this guy so far. I got a blue one from DFS that came in poor shape, and it looked alot different. The other one from DFS came with a brown/tan foot, and was all blue. Here's the blue foot I'm thinking was dyed.

Here's what it looked like 1 hour after being acclimated to my tank last saturday.

Here it is about 30 minutes ago (5 days in the tank). I'm very happy with it, as it's by far the best/healthiest looking anemone I've received from online. And that includes a couple haddoni's that came in cloudy bags that didn't last a couple days. This one came in about a gallon of really clean/clear water at about mid 70 degree water.

I'm really happy with it, but it seems too nice to be real. The foot looks like it's dyed to me. I know someone that got a "white" gigantea, more of a yellow. It turned deep brown 3 months later. It was sold as a white one.
I was just curious what people thought of Reef Hot Spot. Like I said, this one's much different than one I got before (that died). That's why I'm not sure. Thanks for the responses.

Totally natural coloring, that's not dyed in the least. If anything it's a little bleached, but quality water parameters, some silversides, and strong lighting (MH), will take care of that. It's good to see the mouth closed up tightly in the last pic as well.

FWIW, there is no such thing as a healthy white anemone, so never buy one.

I'm glad that everyone has had a positive exp, getting ready to oder a RBTA from them. How size for big blue?

Thanks Criccio-I'm glad you don't think it's dyed. I hope you're right. RHS insists it's not dyed. That's why I'm asking around if anyone knows their rep or has experiences with them. I'm feeling better about this guy, as I've read a couple positives about the company.

I haven't turned my MH on until tonight for 2 hours, and I completely shaded it. It's been under shaded compact flourescents only, so far. Last night was the first night it accepted a piece of silverside.
The size of this anemone ranges from 8-10 inches, smaller when lights are on. It was probably bigger before the shipping stress. It doesn't like light right now. It's shrank 3 times so far, only for a few hours each time. Maybe I'll get lucky, I know there's a long road ahead. Time will tell. I'm going to take light acclimation very slow.

If it's any consolation, it doesn't look consistent with dye jobs I've seen either. Generally with dye you're going to see much more unrealistically vivid coloration, and it will be every speck of the anemones flesh that soaks up the coloration.

Looks natural to me...good luck with it!

hey there,
I just came across this thread and coincidentally I just received my RBTA sm/med 69.99 from reefhotspot this morning!

he is gigantic. I thought he would be like 4" maybe? being that he was listed as sm/med and the one listed as 'large' was described as 4-6" well this guy is like 7" maybe :)

He opened up right away, looks awesome! hasnt eaten yet.. but hey its his first day.

My battery died on my camera but I got this shot of my domino hosting him :) My anemone shrimp and anemone crab are going crazy!

I also bought yellow tip torch, goniopora( Ive sucessfully kept this before and had to sell it when it got too big), and frogspawn.

Heres the new RBTA, hope this helps :)

I've ordered several from them. Yours is another exceptional specimen. NOT DYED. The column's color looks completely normal. RHS is very reputable, I highly recommend them.
