Hi to all,
Okay I have an issue that may be serious or not. As the subject says I have a missing brown tang. I seen him the day before yesterday last. I looked for 2 hours, waited and watched for him to come out with no luck. I even feed the tank to try and see if he would come out. No Fish. After my concern all night last night and today while at work, I decided to do a 100% look. I took out all my large rocks (Which are Heavy)! I still cound not see him anywhere! No dead fish, no bones, nothing! Oh and I checked my floor very well to. So my question is this, if I can't find him should I worry about my water prams and coral? Has anyone had this happen? If so what were the results?
I have a 65G, and the water is still good.
Thanks

If he's dead you might see an ammonia spike. In which case you should do a water change or two. If he's just being shy he'll come out eventually.

minght be in an overflow if you have one.... have you checked behind the tank?

My powder has jumped out and into the overflow in the past....

I have checked every spot! I don't know where the hell he is.
I took out most of my rock. All the larger rock. Which sucked because my aquascape has just been jacked up! It never goes back the same way! LOL... The search will continue. To be honest I hope he jumped out instead of dead in the tank!

I had a large one. I noticed it was closed up too. Being I didn't like it, I took it out and cut it up. I did not see it. Could that monster ate him in 30 hours?

you cut up your anenome for eating a fish? and yes if a fish gets into an anenome it could be gone within a couple hours

I've had a 4 inch Radiant Wrasse get eaten by a bubble tip, took roughly 1.5 hours. I have also had large 3+ inch anthias die and get consumed by the clean-up crew in under 24 hours.

Some fish will play possum in liverock holes as well. Even if you take them out of the water they can survive short periods so don't rule out the liverock either.

I am shocked that you cut up your anemone to try to find a fish that you had no idea was alive or not. If it is in your anemone, it would have been dead and what is the point of killing an anemone ?

After looking everywhere for the fish, I wanted to find it. The anemone was not wanted anyways! So as my last resort I wanted to see it were inside of it. I don't my corals to die because of 1 dead fish...

Tangs are notorious for wedging themselves deep within the rocks, but I suspect he was eaten by your late anemone.

As an aside, I wouldn't replace him. A 65 is a bit on the small side for a powder brown. His condition/stress level may have led to him dying or made him weak enough to be eaten.

your clean up crew and anemone can take care of a fish rather quick especially if they are on the fairly smaller side

Do you have a dog or cat that might have taken it away from around the tank after it jumped?

If so, don't cut them open to check.
