Reef keeper light ???????

No you dont need to update it. I ran mine for a few months before I figured out how to update it. Go to DA's forum and there is all the info you need on how to install MyReef and do the updates. The updates added a few functions and changed the lay out of the screen, it was nice.

If the my reef software is better can I install it first? Shouldn't all the new rkl have the new software on them?

The myReef software does not come on the units themselves. It is downloaded from the DA site and installed on a computer. Where did you buy the system? If you bought it directly from DA, then it would have been shipped with the most up to date firmware. If it came from a retailer, then it all depends on how long they have had that particular one in stock. It has been several months since the last firmware update so if the retailer got it in recently then you would be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you hook it up and have issues out of the box.

It has the newest software but all I have is Mac computers and the site says it only works on a pc. Does anyone have an answer for this ? And can 2.0 my reef work on a mac?

Last I heard they will not develop software compatible with Mac. IDK if there is a way around that with other software to use windows based things on mac, Im pretty ignorant in that area.....

Not for long though! Soon to be a Mac fan here

Pc always have problems like virus's etc. my Mac doesn't !!!!!!!!! Just can't run all programs on it that apple doesn't back up. But I wish I can get this my reef :-(

I'm a mac person too. I got a old dell desktop from my grandparents that they didn't use anymore and that is my permanent aquarium PC. I know this is viable for everyone but that how I got around it. Before that I set up bootcamp on my mac and got a free version of windows. That worked great too!
