Reef Octo Question

Hey everyone. I just got a reef octopus bh1000 hob skimmer. Got it all set up and it is working great. My question is regarding the surface skimmer/intake tube. The intake tube is too long and I therefore can't set the surface skimmer to actually skim the surface. It is about an inch below the surface. Is this ok? Should I cut the tube to fix the problem? Would this effect the warrantee? Thanks for the help.

I had a BH-100f and had to cut one of my tubes.

Anyone know if cutting would effect the warrantee?
