Just picked up a Octo 160 for my set up. I am wondering how much noise they make? Do you put something between the skimmer and the bottom of the glass sump? Is the vibration worth putting a mouse pad underneath?

Mine is not running yet but I don't want to have to keep pulling it out to modify.

I have already be advised to go with a more rigid air line tubing to avoid kinking. Any other Reef Octopus tips?

Mine buzzed quite a bit from the pump contacting the sump bottom. I use a clear suction cup I got from TAP plastics (remove the metal hanger...) mounted to the sump bottom beneath the pump, with the 'nipple' end sticking up contacting the pump. This made a huge difference in the a mount of noise I was getting, without it I'd get an awful harmonic type noise going as the pump settled down against the sump bottom over time.

I also made silicone pads to go under the four corners of the skimmers base which also helped a bit. With the two mods the only sound from the skimmer is from all the air bubbles doing their thing.
