I apologize in advance for the rant, but has anyone else spent a buttload of money on one of these skimmers and been highly disappointed?
I have the XP1000sss Space saving in sump skimmer and this thing has been a debacle ever since I bought it. I bought this thing back in 2012 and while I realize that 4 years ago is quite a while, when you spend 350 bucks on a skimmer youd expect it to last significantly longer.
This thing has never worked as advertised with its well documented problems with it randomly overflowing. After spends loads of time online reading what other people have done to adjust it to get it to work right, I added an air valve on it and after fine tuning that the thing finally started skimming like a champ.
Now here I am a year or so later and the bubble blaster pump is randomly shutting off on me. Ive cleaned the thing several times and it continues to happen. I completely took it apart and soaked it in vinegar, then ran the skimmer in the vinegar solution for two days, cleaned it and reinstalled the thing and pefecto it finally looked like everything was gonna be ok. Now two weeks later the same thing has happened again and Im faced with either buying a whole new skimmer bc Im tired of dealing with it or rolling the dice one more time and buying a new impeller for the pump, which shocker is going to set me back $80
I decided to double down and buy the new impeller, but if this doesnt work, needless to say, if I havent reached that point already, reef octopus products will never get any of my money ever again!
