I got a reef octopus 110 that had a damaged intake (snapped clean off) I've reattached the intake and I believe it's sealed but I can't get the unit to produce micro bubbles.

Even if I disconnect the pump from the unit and run it in my bath tub it only produces larger bubbles and not any real amount of micro bubbles. If you were to disconnect your pump from your skimmer would it fill your sump with micro bubbles or is this relying on some sort of pressure build up from the skimmer body? It could be that I have don't have the intake entirely sealed and but I can't see bubbles escaping when in operation.

The venturi is working it's pulling air into the water but not alot of micro bubbles.

Are you doing this in fresh water or salt? Salt makes micro bubbles much better than fresh.

Doing a run in fresh water to check my intake sealing job. It never occurred to me that salt water would change the reaction. I'm mixing some water for a water change I'll try that water.

Yeah, lack of salt will screw up the bubble production. Basically can't use a skimmer on freshwater for that reason. (i looked into why they were reef only, since i have a ton of freshwater tanks and it seems like skimmers are great for removing protein/bio waste from the water)

Very different in salt vs fresh water I can't believe it never even crossed my mind that this isn't used in fresh water for this reason. All I got to do is clean up my sealing job and I have a new reef octopus for free.
