Im considering purchasing a 9002 reef pack for my 34 gallon rsm. But I have some questions. One is that the reef pack is considered an external sump right? And the other question is that the filter looks like a bucket in the picture on marine depot is that what the filter actually looks like?

The filter goes in tank, it is an intank skimmer and mech filter. The bucket is just the package it comes in and can be used for an osmolator reservoir if you add one to your set up.

They are designed to mount directly in your tank, you could put them in a sump but it would have to have a chamber with an 8" water level.

The 9002 should fit, hundreds of people use them for that application. I have never owned a ready made reef kit so I don't know first hand but I know from feedback that the majority of these skimmers are used in RSM tanks. I would search for some RSM owners who have done it. The Reefpack 200 however is probably to big and the tank already has a filter, you just need a skimmer.

Yes, but I don't know how they do it, I have never owned an RSM, but I know that the majority of them go in RSM tanks.
