Reef safe parrot fish

Matt - I randomly came across an emaciated Scarus quoyi at a poorly run LFS I rarely visit. I only knew what it was from a post here about them. It has blossomed in my 300 after nearly 8 months of recovery and is one of my favorites. It has never touched a coral, but certainly could always change it's mind. It periodically scrapes the rock work but seems to prefer nori & mysis to anything else. It was sold as a generic "green parrot" for a mere $39.

That is a really nice looking parrot! Thanks for the info.

Matt, Jason at GA has one in his main display at the store for a few months and it is very well behaved. I am not sure if he still has another one up still for sale or he sold it. I can give him a call if you would like.

Mike

Thanks Mike, I can shoot him an email when we're ready to get a few.

I'm thinking a harem of 5-6 in our big tank would be nice...

Sedgro,

Beautiful parrot!! How many inches is your fish? Has it grown muuch since you obtained it? Do you think a 180 gallon reef tank (6' x 2' x 2')would be large enough for one of these? Thanks.

It is close to 10 inches, and has grown a little bit. I had no trouble getting it to feed. It was timid at first but is now one of the more aggressive feeders in the tank.

Agree, that would be pretty awesome.

Matt,
I am in SF, CA too. Would it be possible to check out your tank sometime?
