I had a Niger and now have male and female blue throat and they don't bother my shrimp coral or other fish
Reef safe triggerfish and pufferfish

So do you think it would be okay with a black trigger or a saddle puffer?

The puffer is probably going to rip your inverts apart, though it will probably leave the corals alone. As far as triggers, I have to agree that you can never fully trust them. FWIW, I hate triggers haha...don't get me wrong, they are some pretty gorgeous fish, and quite a few people have luck with them. But they are just too aggressive for me, and I can never say they DEFINITELY will not bother anyone. If you enjoy your shrimp, crabs and snails, I'd leave both triggers and puffers out of your list.

Im not sure. I just love those two fish. I mean worse case scenario I would lose 2 shrimp and some snails. I don't think either touch the corals

there are 2 kinds of black trigs..not including the Niger trig, Odonus niger..
the Indian- Melichthys indicus
the Hawaiian- Melichthys niger
they both get quite large and can be aggressive...
they can be reef-safe but no guarantees...
my last 2 were very aggressive and liked mess around with my zoas and would often swim around the tank with them in their mouths...

Exactly. I think people don't realize that once any fish gets big it can do whatever it wants. Look at all those big tangs that start to eat corals also.

I had 1 of each in my last trig tank..they grew exceptionally fast, like a queen, and were quite aggressive.
I have had others that were less aggressive but the growth was the same...
They are beautiful fish with wonderful personalities but will get big and possibly nasty..

Exactly. It's going to come down to a lot of unpredictable subtle factors. You'll probably not get a definitive answer.
