reef safe triggers??

i keep compareing liveaquaria and saltwaterfish.com and the pics are toltaly different between the two and one say reef compatible and the other says its not ...............who to belive?

I have a blue throat in my reef. He doesnt touch any snails or shrimp. Great fish !! I've also hear that pink tail triggers are reef safe.

I think they are hit and miss, If you have to have a niger then make sure you get him small and feed him well. I would honestly go with a bluethroat.

I had a black Hawaiian trigger that for a year and a half never bit anything (but my fingers) then one day he got a taste for my SPS and other corals. It's a hit or miss with triggers.

Sargassum trigger, blue throat, pink tail, and one other (which I can't remember) are supposedly reef safe. Honestly, its a risk with any trigger, but I would definitely not put a Niger in a reef tank. I have seen to many of them wreak havok on ornamental shrimps and snails in the past. Just IMO

i had to get rid of my niger because it was eating my urchin and eating my montipora capricornus. it didnt have interest in any other corals, but i didnt have much then. it may have eaten more if i had more to choose from.

Xanthicthys mento, the Crosshatch Trigger is probably what you're trying to think of. Sufflamen albicaudatus or Whitetail Trigger is one that isn't talked about much and is another good candidate for reef aquariums. Most fish from the genus Xanthicthys and Sufflamen are possible candidates for a reef aquarium.

The Niger isn't a good choice IMO. They may work for a while, but eventually as they grow there's a good chance they'll sample several things in your aquarium.

I've got a pinktail that hasn't eaten any inverts. Plus it's a great fish :)
