take home message-
-survival rate is very low with these species.
-they need excellent water quality and a bigger tank than you have.
-IF it eats, probably not "reef safe" in that small fishes and shrimp will be eaten.
if you are doing your research on a seller's site, remember they have a conflict of interest. they are likely to tell you what you want to hear, not what is likely to occur.
I have not kept ribbon eels because of their very poor survival in captivity. there are challenging species that you can keep with success, but I wouldn't recommend getting this fish, especially if you have less than a decade or more experience with challenging species.

if you decide to get one and have success, be sure to post with pictures and details of your set-up. also, if you do not have success, it makes sense to report this as well, to add to knowledge in the hobby.
I suspect starting out with a healthy specimen is key to success, so I wouldn't buy one sight unseen.
