I'm re-setting up a 90 gal reef tank that I had 20 years ago. (You may have seen my other posts about it).
I had to purchase some replacement parts. Mostly I found other peoples posts that talk about these things. From them I purchased:
- Sand - CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade - 120 lbs

- Salt - Instant Ocean Reef Crystals

- Pump - Lifegard Aquatics Quiet One Prop Pump 4000 - ~870 gal/hr

- Lights - Current USA Obit Marine LED 60"
https://www.marineandreef.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RCU04103
I also have:
- Powerheads (x3), Heaters (x2), Live rocks (135 lbs), Protean Skimmer & Air Pump all are the originals I used 20 years ago. They are still good.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!
At this point I have the tank setup and running. Nothing in the tank yet, just sand and rocks and salt.
So my next steps:
A) Get a test kit: I'm ordering the API one. Good?

Will I need more tests than this kit provides?
B) Seeding the bacteria in the tank?
20 years ago I got a scoop of sand from a friends established tank, dumped it into the new tank, and waited a few weeks for it to do it's thing.
Is that how we do it these days? Is there a better way?
Thanks for your help!
