Reef shrimp!

I know technically this is the reef FISHES forum but shrimp are all part of our reefs. I've never seen a good macro shot of a fire shrimp and I finally got some last night, I think you guys who keep these critters will appreciate them even more :)

This guy is doing good in my 38g, he cleans my little meanie of an undulated trigger without skipping a beat.

Nice shots. I have a pair of Fire Shrimps and Cleaners. It's super cool to see them clean fish. Got a Passer Angel and the Passer would basically lay down and stretch out his gill to be cleaned by the fire shrimp. It's more rare to see the blood shrimps clean though.

Really nice dude!

Shooting with a dslr I guess? The eyes look amazing..
Yep, shooting with a DSLR. It's the only way to go for macro photography :)

Those are flat awesome. One heck of a macro lense you have there.
Thanks!

My blood shrimp is in a 38g tank alone with my undulated, he cleans him all the time. I've had pretty good luck with blood shrimp in the past cleaning fish as well.

Yes, I have them and I LOVE your images. What lens?
Thanks! I am using the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro.

Nice shots as always Recty.
Thanks!

Wow, awesome pics. What camera are you using, the detail and color are amazing...
I'm using a Canon 50D paired with a macro lens. I took quite a few pictures with a flash but the relatively low amount of light was causing me problems, so I took out my flash and pointed it at the wall behind the shrimp and bounced the light off there and onto the shrimp. It really helps bring out the detail.

I googled that lens to Amazon...Recty would that lens work on my Rebel XTI? Sorry, probably a dumb question, but couldn't see it on there, and I'm Camara stupid, I just point and click.

Yes it would work. Make sure you dont buy the IS version, it's a lot of money for not much gain. Image stabilization doesnt do much in the macro world.

It opens up a whole new world when you get a good macro lens :)

Great shots. Makes me want a macro lens for my DSLR. If I just had the money.
Sell some frags!

Awesome pics, I wish I could bring myself to spend that kind of money on a camera.
I sell photographs and also design websites on the side, I do the photography for the websites I design. What's nice is that little side job which doesnt take much of my time at all has paid for all my camera gear and then some, so it's a free hobby :)

I know this isn't the right forum for this but it seems to be the right time to ask....so I will. Anything special you do to keep the little guy with success? These are by far my favorite of the shrimps but I've never had that much luck with them. I can keep skunks all day long but the bloods seem to disappear after a while. Each one I did keep by itself but the skunks I've kept in pairs.

I've always kept bloods in pairs, seem very hardy IME. Last for years and eat pretty much anything.

Great shots.

A while back I was able to get one of my cleaner shrimp, not nearly as good as yours, but I think they are pretty neat,

This was the best, of many, of the "baby" shrimp,

I dont do anything special to keep mine alive. In fact, I keep mine with an undulated trigger, not exactly recommended.

BTW, those are cool shots Todd :)

Maybe you should mention that the other fire shrimp didn't make it 24 hours with that trigger & hawkfish............also the skunk cleaner that got killed. I think they'll all be meals in due time.

People shouldn't get the impression this works or is fair to the shrimp to satisfy some amusement for a few days or weeks.
