Tiki, the only place that I would personally reccomend to you for the northbay north of you is coralreefecosystem. The rest, dont even waste your time. I am checking out Alameda aquatics today and will let you know.

The Pet Club in Corte Madera is the best store in Marin. Not too many inverts; but, a decent fish selection and great prices on the dry goods (often even better than 6th Avenue).

Other than that, you have to roadtrip; or, trade with the locals.

What sort of stuff are you looking for?

Best of luck,

Roy

looking for some small started SPS, and I am looking to get rid of a couple fish. I have an Emporer angel that needs to go and a medium sized hippo tang. I dont have alot to trade just a huge colony of frilly mushrooms, some green hammer coral and some giant green Palys.

TikiDan, I will give you some orange motipora digita and some green slimmer to get you started, once those are growing good in your tank then you are ready for some other stuff and I can frag you some more. Let me know if you are going to be in the area or if you are going to be at the next meeting.

I love the emperator angel wish I can take him off your hand but I dont have a place that I can keep him

You can get some killer brown sps if you stop off at Piner Road.

What do you think is causing the killer brown?

Lack of care maintaining sps tanks, I tested the water out of one of the tanks a while back when i bought my birdsnest, i dont remember the numbers but it was a deff. problem.

Yeah, the super rare chocolate acropora.

If you dont feel like driving all the way up to Santa Rosa to hit Caesars, theres always Northbay Aquatics in Cotati/Rohnert Park.

Its directly off 101 at the Highway 116 Sebastopol exit

The manager, Ray, knows his stuff, he actually just set up 4 frag tanks and has a nice variety of inverts and other livestock.

They will order anything you want if they dont have it stocked

Is Ray new to this store, because the last few times i've been in there it looked terible. But that has been a few months now.

jeffkluse, yes Ray is new, and ill agree the store used to look terrible. I have been shopping there for about 2 years now.

The old manager Nate, who knew saltwater in and out left to do his own thing. During that time they juggled managers and employees around and they didnt have too many people that knew saltwater that well. They also fired a couple people and had a few more leave.

About 3-4 months ago things got really bad, tanks looked like crap, brown algae covering the sand on many of the SW tanks, in general livestock looked like crap with some fish dead in tanks, etc. They only had 1-2 people working there during the day, etc.. I was at the point where I didnt want to go there anymore but they have RO water and they are less then 10 minutes away from me...

The owner by the way lives in Texas...Well his business partner came out here to watch over the store. In the process Ray started working there(not sure how they found him, he found them ,etc) and things started to look up. They hired a bunch more people and started to clean the store up.

They have been getting alot more product in, diversifying what brands they carry and really making the saltwater portion of the store much nicer.

Sorry that was so long, but really they do deserve at least a look.
