Reef Triggerfish (Humu)

Realistically what species (fish, inverts, coral) are compatible with a Humu? My understanding is that inverts are including small snails, hermits, shrimp might become food for a Humu as well as hard corals. Possibly soft corals, marine plants, large snails, naso tang, moorish idol? Any suggestions are appreciated.

How large is the tank? The trigger will mostly likely get aggressive after being in the tank for a while. Also would avoid a naso and a moorish idol because it may nip at there long fins.

Humu triggers aren't reef safe and will pick at most corals and eat almost all inverts. For other fish, large angels, tangs, larger wrasses, puffers and other triggers can make suitable tankmates.

125g. Any suggestions in terms of other fish?

Triggers only? What other fish are in the tank currently? Saragassum or a blue throat. I'm assuming a crosshatch is higher then you would want to spend and your tank should be bigger. I can suggest alot of different fish but it would help if I knew what you currently had

depends on the huma but typically they do well in tanks with angels, tangs, larger wrasses, damsels, other trigs...often make a mess out of corals...

Currently there is nothing in the tank except live rock, large turbo snails, small blue hermit crabs, a larger coral banded shrimp and a few peppermint shrimp.

My goal is to build the tank around eventually adding a rectangle or Picasso Humu. With that in mind what type of fish would you suggest and any order in particular?

Also are there any specific inverts that would be safe with the Humu as well as any types of coral that it would choose not to nip at?

Thanks again.

Derek

a huma will eventually kill everything you listed....
though I add hermits and cleaner shrimp a few times a year..
sorry, I forget, how big is the tank?

With a huma you can say goodbye to all the inverts but the turbo snail. I'm assuming there is something about triggers maybe or the Huma that you really like and want in the DT. Humaguy who posted above has more experience with triggers than I, so I am sure he can recommend some. Angels, tangs, and groupers are all aggressive feeders like most triggers are.

Yes it's a 125. I would really like a Humu so I am trying to build the tank around one knowing that I will add one in the near future. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you want a Huma then a FOWLR will be the only way to go. All inverts and corals will become snacks for the trigger eventually

I have had a huma in a softie reef for years (mostly leathers, Kenya tree and sinularia) and he never touched any of it. He started out at about an inch in length and is now about six or seven inches long. He is well fed however.
