Reefaplooza

Hi everyone! I was checking out all of the reef conventions in CA, New York, Florida...and other states....I was wondering why Saint Louis doesn't have a huge Reefaplooza or something? Also is there a way to make that happen?

Most of us that help put on the Frag swap are happy with the amount of work that we need to put in to just do that.

Yea I can see that....the frag swap is really cool....I was thinking on a bigger scale....I was just curious why STL doesn't have something really big like that.....unless those other cities have more reef hobbiest than STL....

I'm not sure what's involved work-wise, what the costs are, what the benefits are, etc. I think Frag swaps twice a year are pretty ambitious for the small handful of active SLASH members we have.

Are you volunteering to do the research and report back here? Would you be willing to go "œall in" to make this happen:)?

Yea I will be happy to look into it and report back.....I was reading Reef Hobbiest mag the other day and they had a couple of pics of a big one in Orlando I think...but it was huge...and even had EchoTech....and other big name vendors there....I know we have a lot of Hobbiest and great LFS in our area...who would probably love to have something like that here.....[emoji16]

Picture of volunteers at the Houston show:
That means the pictured members took at least the afternoon off... they were directing traffic outside, stuffing bags, putting up tables and barricades, making SW, filling up and moving jugs of SW, setting up raffle displays... etc (there were more than just these 7 btw)

About 7 volunteers pictured here on a Friday afternoon around 3pm stuffing bags. Only one of the above pictured is on the BOD of MARSH. (SLASH members take note!). This show is not that much bigger than ours. Bigger shows are possible but not without reliable help. Those big shows you are talking about pay their help. They also have big admission fees for visitors and vendors. like $50 to get in or more and $1000 for a small booth. These shows are also in cities related to the ornamental fish and coral industry. There are many facilities in Orlando, Miami, L.A. etc. St. Louis has a lot of stores but our stores are most likely not going to spend the $3000 and up price tag we would have to charge for platinum sponsorship. A big show is possible but with the culture of our club and the St. Louis Saltwater industry as a whole I find it unlikely to happen here.

If you want to visit one of these larger shows some time... maybe get some idea of all the "fun" that goes into putting one of these things on...
Matt and I were discussing the possibility of getting a SLASH group to go to the Aquachella festival in Chicago.
I would post a link but right now the information I can find is on a RtooR thread.

And you guys do a good job and are appreciated by many of us. One of these days when my life becomes less hectic and dad duties slow down I will become more involved. So....save a BoD seat for me in 2037, ok?
